My thoughts exactly on reading this story. It brings back to me an occasion when I got lumbered with letting a guy go who was twenty years my senior with kids about to enter college, and a PhD to my lowly (in his mind anyway) BS. It was a very painful experience, but I did it, because he was reporting to me (he didn’t much like that either) and that’s the way things work. I can have a momentary flicker of sympathy for tRump, but then, he asked for the job, so, as you point out, it’s beyond ironic that he made a “job” out of pretend firings.

The TV show was be design…specifically because he is so terrified of firing people directly. He knows he has this weakness and the self loathing because of it is immense. So the TV show was developed so he could feed his ego that he really can fire people.
With all of the firings and forced resignations of this administration, Trump has not delivered the actual firing news a single time. Not once. Nor will he ever.
This is another aspect that must just have his lawyers tied up in knots over. Its not just his pathological drive to lie about everything, big or small, but its also his cowardice of confrontation. Sitting down with Mueller IS going to be confrontational. And Trump doesn’t handle that well.

I think you are misreading that. The worst things get for Trump, the more his base screams approval. Because to his actual base, this has always been about pissing off everyone else. And Trump screwing up, pisses people off.
The other thing about his approval numbers, is they are staying in a relatively close range. He bounces between 35-45% approval, and has since he set foot in the office. He is afforded that because Obama’s economy is still chugging along. That is about to end, sadly. When the impact from his trade war and other policies start hitting, the economy will falter and Trump’s rating will start collapsing, even among his base.

Not exactly wrt WW2. Using any firearm without hearing protection will damage your hearing. The M-1, Springfield, Thompson, etc were as efficient for that as today’s firearms.
The Browning .50 is the same machine gun my dad’s generation used. My son will testify to its efficiency for hearing damage. (He sat under one in Afghanistan.)

It is no easier when you have the PhD and the person you’re firing has a BSc. Been there and done that (in my case he had an infant rather than kids in college).
It’s just a shitty thing to have to do to someone. That is why you do it face to face and in a private setting.
