Discussion: Sherrod Brown 'Seriously' Considering 2020 Run, Cites 'Crescendo' Of Support

Um…the thing is, a crescendo usually doesn’t last very long, 'cause there is limited real estate in that direction.

I can’t remember who, but someone a little while back (might have been @khyber900) suggested a winning 2020 ticket with him and Kamala Harris (and that the order on the ticket could go either way).

Sherrod, I love you dearly and I love you dearly right where you are and I wish you’d just stay there.

I don’t love the idea of you as a candidate for president.

(and for god’s sake, Hilary, no. I’m too exhausted to defend you from all sides again.)

Agree with everything. Let the new guard take on the fight.

Yes. It’s time for younger candidates and candidates who don’t make such large juicy targets because they don’t have long juicy records in politics or any other category.

And we have such a strong bench now with awesome rising stars.

Yeah we do and it makes me so happy.

He has cred with WWC voters. He is not tainted by Al Franken witchy bitchyhood. He’s a good guy.

I’m good with whomever wants to run. It’s who wins the primary that matters.

He’s a good guy.

Yes he is bona fide and WWC voters would get behind him. He does make WWC his proprity but is careful not to rock the corporate world. Don’t know how he could juggle both messages.

Timing will be right but are Democrats ready to rumble - get risky and commit to younger exciting talent?

And typically such things come down as fast as they go up.

Could’t agree more. Like Hilary, Sherrod comes with way too much baggage.

What exactly is his baggage?

Like what? He’s a guy? He’s white? His wife is in the news business?

Oh, wait, I know - he appeals to WC voters.

Fact is, he has no baggage.

I couldn’t agree more. Brown not only has no baggage, but he has significant assets. He is a good liberal and a good guy and he might even carry Ohio. I will also be a little politically incorrect. It’s about time that the Democrats starting having some appeal to white males again, especially working-class white males. If nominated, I have no doubt he would balance his ticket with someone who isn’t one.

He is a traditional Democratic liberal, who has working-class appeal, and is a gritty guy. I was getting a ton of emails, and never once believed that he would have trouble. He is a very good Sen for OH, much like Tim Ryan in Youngstown or something like a sane Jim Traficant.

I just looked up his Wikipedia entry. Nothing in that to raise a red flag. He is, to his discredit, a career politician. He has done many things for working people. He is for gay rights. He opposed CAFTA, another piece of crap “free trade” chattel slavery bill.

I’d support him. He’s not insane.

So who’s everyone’s favorite?
Sherrod Brown?
Beto O’Rourke?
Kamala Harris?
Cory Booker?
Deval Patrick?
Kirsten Gillibrand?
Elizabeth Warren?
Steve Bullock?
Steve Inslee?
Eric Holder?
Chris Murphy?
Adam Schiff?
Julian Castro?
Anyone else?

Dems losing the Ohio gubernatorial race really hurts him. He is THE top pick for VP and if not a top tier Presidential candidate at the front of the second tier. But knowing he’ll be replaced by a Republican eliminating Dems only statewide office holder in an important state will give a lot of insiders pause.
