Discussion: Shep Smith: The Same People Who Were Wrong About Iraq Now Want Us To Go Back (VIDEO)

Discussion for article #223917

Do they keep him on FOX just so they can show they are “balanced?” (even if such honest comments from him account for an infinitesimal amount of FOX “reporting”)

And here I thought FOX was still cheerleading for everything Bush? Why would they consider any other Republican any different?

Yes, the media will ask tough questions like, 'Pres. Obama, was John McCain right?" ‘Pres. Obama, would you agree that the problem in Iraq to be blamed on your administration?’ ‘Sen. McCain, do you feel vindicated about what would happen in Iraq?’

The media knows how to ask the tough questions and how to get to the truth.

Yup. That’d be the people your network have been blindly supporting for about 15 years.

I’m with Obama on this one. No more American women and men killed or wounded for these freaking medieval minded piece of crap of Iraqis. We have given them the once in a lifetime opportunity to be a different Country, to live past their differences, to not be afraid anymore of some Saddam and his sons killing and maiming and gassing them. They squandered the opportunity, the hell with them. I don’t want to see anymore American kids with the flag that covered their father’s or mother’s caskets in their hands, crying over their graves.

If they want the freaking sharia law let them have it, if they don’t, let THEM fight against it. And if they ever turn their guns on us, we have more than enough power, without going nuclear, to pound them stupid from the distance. Screw Iraq!!!

Is it possible that we’re seeing early signs of the extent of the overreach of the rightwing?

Are they, like Wiley Coyote, suddenly discovering that they are well out over thin air, and beginning to scramble to find firmer ground?

One can hope.

"[I]t would be wrong for us to just sit around and listen and not ask big questions," Smith said.

Better reread that Fox contract you signed, Shep. It’s a required boilerplate clause.

I think you may be onto something here. I’ve been reading all over the ‘net today, and the neo-cons are talking’ and walkin’ like it’s 2003 all over again. But they are completely, absolutely tone deaf. This country - or at least the vast majority of its citizens -is DONE with Iraq, Afghanistan, the whole mideast medieval horror show.

Isn’t it ironic that, in this age of unheard of partisanship, there seems to be one cause that unites us all? Woe to the politician who suggests going back to Iraq.

…and yet a good chunk of them would vote for Dubya again at the drop of a hat.

Sadly you and many many others should have said this, no should have screamed it, way back in 2003. Iraq was a complete waste of blood and treasure from day one that did more to destabilize the entire region than the British ever did.

He’s been acting a lot like a guy who’s trying to get out of his contract without losing compensation or bonus by getting fired for doing the job his contract says he was hired to do rather than the one his employers really want him to do.

Don’t y just love it when people ASSUME? As in assuming an entire country or ethnicity thinks as you do, or assuming you know what their reactions to your actions will be. By assuming you don’t need an end game, or any of that detail non-sense. So, how’d that work out for you?

There was a distinct lack of rose petals. Damned savages.

Do they even realize that the Bush Administration spend tens of billions of American dollars and several years arming and training those very same “militants” they now want to send more US troops (and billions of our unlimited supply of borrowed dollars) to kill?

WTF, O??

Let’s just send McCain, Cruz and Palin to "get "them. Those three together surely can solve ANY and ALL problems - just ask them.

He obviously didn’t get the memo. No speaking kindly of Obama, and no speaking badly of Bushies.

Sometimes I think that but, at other times, I think it is just a game. They let Shep say something reasonable, knowing there will be no serious follow-up by the media, and FOX gets the “right” to claim to be balanced.

Bushies? What are these things you speak of? 2000 to 2007 never happened!

Yes, well you might want to re-consider some of your other positions before their realities hit you in the face. Why did it take this long for you to come to this realization when it was very, very, clear a long time ago that the war in Iraq was not going to prevent what is happening now once we pulled out?

You make all these things sound so damned simple yet by your words you thought we were giving the Iraqi people such a wonderful opportunity. And don’t forget that many Iraqi civilians died as well.

Republicans are giving the military industrial complex exactly what it wants, a perpetual war. Ike warned about this and must be rolling over in his grave.
