Discussion: Sexual Assault Survivor Referenced By George Will: I Don't Have 'Privileges'

Discussion for article #224558

What’s the protest buffer outside Will’s house?

“”[H]e’s a conservative columnist, but why should sexual assault be political?" she asked."

Because a few decades ago women forgot it was their place to STFU and do what they’re told.

I’d like to see her confront him one on one.

Like all conservatives, rape will have to affect Will or someone close to Will before he has empathy for rape victims.

If she did, all Will would do is smirk.

Don’t underestimate the power of rationalization. Will’s empathy would be for the Good Honest Woman he knows and who is not a dirty lying slut like the women he doesn’t know.

If you’re suggesting I rape George Will…sorry, man, I’m not going anywhere near that creature.

I wonder if George Will would starting squealing a different tune if he was a raped by a few dudes wanting to test his theory on him?

Kind of like Dick Cheney swinging in the other direction once he realized his daughter was a lesbian.

The opinionated ideological driven ignorant views of the right always swing when they become victims of their own words.

The US right wing is arguably one of the weakest human subspecies on the planet.

It’s nice to see a survivor hit back at Will on a subject that as she says shouldn’t be treated as a political football. While this disgruntled curmudgeon spews hateful rhetoric and lies, there are women suffering at this very moment from sexual assault in college, on the street or in their homes. How this creep keeps his cushy and I’m sure well-paid job is a mystery.

Don’t waste your breath on George Will.
He is now firmly in the thrall of the FOX News bubble and works under only one maxim;
Upton Sinclair: “It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends upon his not understanding it!”

Well, it would be her fault if she is someone he doesn’t know and should be stoned because she enticed the man into doing so. If it is someone he does know, they should hide it deep down, pray, and still do whatever their “legitimate” partner wants anyhow. There, easy.

Does he get his bow-tie to defend himself?

I don’t believe that she was conveyed any “privileges” from her accusation of sexual assault.

I did read the original article and her description of the sexual assault was befuddling. For me, it sounded like she was claiming that she was sexually assaulted because she was to lazy to get out of bed. There was no force, no threat, and she basically let her boyfriend have sex with her so she could get to sleep.

The other part that made her story less than plausible is that she claimed that she has been sexually assaulted many times, but this was the only one she chose to report. That is a HUGE red flag for me.

It might be a red flag as to her credibility but Will (or anyone else) is living in a parallel universe if he thinks that reporting a sexual assault gives you privilege. As in so many other areas, the way he defines “privilege” here is anything that gives someone like him less power to control the narrative or result of events. Do a little thought experiment of what the opposite of “privilege” by his definition would be for a woman who has been sexually assaulted – keeping quiet and never getting any redress for a criminal act perpetrated against you. That is, what Will means by privilege is what a lot of the rest of us mean by a minimum level of dignity and freedom. It’s a neat trick he plays there, along with a lot of other people whose own privilege has been eroded over the last 30 years, and it’s absolutely right to call him on it.

250 feet I expect.

My freedom to swing my arms may end where George’s nose begins, but I can’t guarantee I won’t stumble.

This is clearly a man who feels he’s never needed any mercy, so he isn’t about to give any to others. After all, what would John Galt do? For these people compassion is a sign of weakness, not a sign of sanity and combat is just being neighborly.

I was followed off a bus when I was 12 years old and shoved into a door way all the while the man/boy was shouting at me. Fortunately the bus driver saw what was happening and stepped in, not a sexual attack (but who knows if the bus driver hadn’t rescued me), but never the less enough of a trauma that the many unfortunate homeless, drug addicted, and or mentally ill wondering the streets make me very uncomfortable.
To this day I avoid riding buses at all costs. It was pretty nerve racking riding the subway and Ferry in New York for two years.

This happened over 50 years ago and I still react with fear if I am approached by a stranger on the street.

I think Mr. Will has too many privileges having his own byline and a front row seat on every conservative TV bobble head show, at a time when we need intelligent understanding approaches to the troubles of the many, not the ignorance of the few.

Yes, it’s a “huge red flag” because obviously she should have stepped up and claimed her “privileges” before this. Because it’s such a fuckin’ priviledge to have George fuckin’ Will wipe his ignorant privileged ass on your life, and prompt lots of other people to decide that their doubts about what little they know of the story are somehow relevant.
