There are thousands of young men who own assault rifles and have menacing social media profiles and/or links to white supremacist militias and/or a history of psychological instability. They wouldn’t own an assault rifle otherwise. How the fuck is the FBI supposed act on all of them?

Here’s what is feasible: a ban on assault weapons and a crackdown on white supremacist groups like the one the Parkland Trumpist belonged to.

I don’t disagree with the need to review what happened per follow up on that tip.

I am concerned that it gets picked up by two groups for the wrong reasons: 1) the pro-trump ‘fire Wray’ Nunes types, and 2) the local state level pols (like Scott) using this cry to redirect discussions away from actions taken to weaken gun laws in the state - especially any efforts that happened between the Pulse shooting and this one.

Actually it appears to have been one person (or 2 or 3) in a small State office, who missed the boat, did not pass the info on to the actual FBI. Be interesting to know who those person/people are, sans a witch-hunt of course.

That’s what the Republicans do - every time. Find a fall guy when the clear problem is the abundance of these type of weapons in our society. This time it’s the FBI. Another time it’s mental illness or Muslims or immigrants or or something else…anything else. Anything except the elephant in the room.

It’s clear the FBI could have done better, but it’s an impossible task to track every idiot out there with a weapon and a grudge. Especially with Trump actively supporting the haters out there.

If only we still had Black Panthers we could solve this gun problem in a jiffy. CA has had some of the strongest gun laws for 50 years, thanks to the Panthers (legally) brandishing rifles in marches on Sacramento, resulting in gun laws signed by Gov. Reagan PDQ. Now if they would just march on the next NRA convention.

I doubt anyone is asking why the FBI isn’t tracking “every idiot out there,” or why it hasn’t acted on “all of them.”

I think it’s reasonable to ask why no one followed up on this particular tip about this particular kid. For example, are there so many such tips in Florida that many of them receive no attention?

That assault weapons are still readily available is worse than a disgrace. You think a ban is “feasible” with Republican control of Congress?

This is the very least he could do.

Based on what I am seeing online, I don’t think America’s young people are going to buy “thoughts and prayers.” The NRA is beginning to take some real heat.
