Discussion: Senators Worry McConnell Promise On DACA Not Firm Enough To End Shutdown

This is where his switcharoo on Collins comes back to bite him on the ass…hard.

McConnell was quite often the savior at the last minute during the Obama funding fights, because he could cut a deal with all parties and be believed. He has now thoroughly trashed that reputation with BOTH sides. Nobody believes any promise he makes.

Especially on DACA. Because even if McConnell wanted to move forward with something, Ryan won’t. This is why I think the DACA part of this is going to take a LONG time to resolve. There aren’t any honest brokers on the republican side who can whip the votes necessary.

Democrats don’t trust Mitch McTurtle??? However could that be??

Sometimes it’s hard to decide who I hate more - McConnell, Ryan or Trump. They’re all so deserving of utter contempt in their own inimical ways.

It’s the GOP’s “self-fulfilling prophecy” tactic.

They get elected and prove themselves right.

Or (and I’m just throwing this out there) we could do it right now.

Also, 3 million more people preferred the Democratic agenda in the presidential election.

doing so would upset this WH.

Shorter McConnell to Dems: “That’s a nice Mercedes you’re selling. You let me have the keys, and I’ll give you a photo of the $50,000 you’re asking for it. And, by the way, it won’t actually be a photo of $50,000, it’ll be a photo of $50,000 in Monopoly money. But you can trust me that I’ve got the 50 grand.”

It’s not required that you choose.

Precisely how is the “promise” that is being currently being advanced - distinctly different from all of the false promises that where made & then broken - broken based upon BS reasoning & double talk & flat out dishonesty … What would make anyone believe that this new promise would be kept?

I don’t do hate. Hate is an active emotion, and frankly these fuckwads aren’t worth the energy. For folks like these three I reserve the ultimate diss emotion: Ambivalence. Hate would be, “If I saw you in a lake, 10 feet from shore and drowning, I’d throw out a 5 foot rope.” That takes effort and energy. Ambivalence is, 'If I saw your drowning in a lake I’d stop and watch you drown."

Fuck McConnell. There is zero reason to believe him. Demand he put it in the CR. If he put the DACA deal in, it would pass. There is zero reason to accept any promise. Just put it in the CR.

I’m sure this logic will bring about an immediate surrender of the majority to the control of the minority.

Who needs to actually win elections?

I was always rooting for Charlie Brown to just go ahead and kick Lucy in the head.

And some version of that is what needs to happen here.

No wall funding, put DACA bipartisan deal in, or no. CHIP funding is in the CR already.

I think I know why a compromise is so hard to come by. Kelly and Miller told Trump that Dreamers are actually just sharks in disguise.

This.

This also solves the House problem because the House represents the biggest impediment. See, the 2013 Immigration bill passed with something like 12 GOP Senators votes and Boehner never gave it a vote in the House (where the whip count said it would pass).

Yep. DACA now has to be resolved (and CHIP) passed and signed FIRST or fuck em. Also passing a measure funding the troops that both Macaskill and Duckworth brought up that were each shot down by GOP.

I’m pretty sure that when the Racist in Chief said he was afraid of sharks he meant Puerto Ricans, as in West Side Story.
