Discussion: Senate Republicans Shrug Off Mounting Evidence Of Trump's Misdeeds

Honestly, reading the article I caught a sense that they know this is serious and it is coming at them. They are in that painful period of knowing their pet is rabid but are in denial. So they want to live those rosy eyed days of romping in the meadow with their diseased little friend while it foams at the mouth and snaps at everything. The longer they wait, the worse it will be for them. I am taking a bit of heart over that.

Yep, yesterday was memorable and it is paying off as we speak.

I really think this is the crux of the matter. Someone like Mitch McConnell comes from a state that is pretty solidly Trump country. Among registered Republicans Trump might be the most popular sitting president in the history of polling. And it’s that Republican base they must face in their next primary. Among evangelicals his approval numbers are shockingly high; like 80-85%.
They’re hearing from the folks back home. That’s got to be it.

Even Jeff Flake, hand-wringer extraordinaire, votes the Trump Agenda 83% of the time, and told me in letter that he’ll vote for Kavanaugh.

OH boy this new front page is good… just think I get to click the story with a picture, then followed by just the headline an inch or so later and again followed by another look at the headline AGAIN. Sure want me to click on the stories…

Really just pretty much par for the course. No one can really expect these Senators to work against their own interest. A slam dunk confirmation of a solidly conservative justice is an easy decision

Those bastards are so crooked they need to screw their pants on in the morning. Maybe their giggling will stop when a Federal Marshall shows up to arrest them for treason?

One of the miracles of modern science is the ability of otherwise disorganized pieces of shit to suddenly line up in military-like precision when the opportunity to screw over the American public arises.

Republicans will pay the price in the November election for not denouncing Trump’s and his administration’s corruption !

“I don’t know what Judge Kavanaugh has to do with any of this,” he said.

Really? Repugs don’t know their favorite judge-to-be believed the president -so long as he’s repug- can do anything he wants, including commit crimes in and out of office? They’re gonna vote for a judge they know nothing about? Well, duh. They’re repugs.

The GOP as presently constituted needs to die.

Not doing anything is also political suicide, which they are about to find out.

@shenonymous - I truly think so too.

It’s possible, even likely, but repugs have been voting lockstep since Bush2. The party is deeply fascist.

Once the Dem president has the economy running fairly well, the deficit paid down, the environment cleaner, a few repugs in jail (where they all belong), the repugs will start screaming over imaginary misdemeanors on any and all Dem parts. And the Dem party will cringe and get rid of anyone the repugs don’t like… SSDD

The entire Republican Party is going down. Josh’s latest post explains how everyone who touches Trump is burned. The entire party is now on fire. They support him because they are as morally unfit as he is. They will try to dodge it at some point, a point way past the “save themselves” cut off.

They didn’t lose the man - McConnell refused to consider the nomination. That had nothing to do with the Democrats in Congress.

@rollinnolan - The entire party really does need to go down and I don’t see how they avoid it myself. They’ve been pushing the majority around this entire century so far. Corrections are way overdue.

Get REAL. At the slightest whiff of scandal, not crime: scandal, usualy invented or hugely exaggerated by the repug-friendly press, the Democrats fold crumple like used paper napkins.

Democrats will NEVER put an “uber liberal” on the Supreme Court because:
!. They won’t do anything the repugs or press squeal real loudly about, and
2. The Democratic Party doesn’t LIKE “uber liberals”. They’re centrists (repug-lite). (Democrat voters do like uber liberals, but once elected, Dem politicians don’t give a rat’s ass what liberals want).
