I think Murkowski and Collins are the reason the hearings are being held. They either voted with the Democrats or threatened to vote with the Democrats.

You’ll note that this listing of committee members is for the 114th Congress. The Congress presently sitting is the 115th Congress. Mark Kirk is no longer a member of the Senate. The seat is now held by Tammy Duckworth (D-IL).

ETA: Kirk has been replaced on the committee by Todd Young (R-IN). The Democratic membership remains the same for the 115th Congress.

One Republican staffer said he didn’t see how the “problem solver” proposal could gain much traction. Well if his congressman would do his job and become a problem solver instead of a miserable ideological money raiser maybe problems could be solved.

They’re going to hold hearings in September? While raising the debt ceiling, debating the Defense bill, and thirteen other spending bills, reforming the tax code, and somehow carry on babysitting Trump? There aren’t enough days in the Congressional calendar to do all of that before Thanksgiving!

Interesting . . . 12-11 Republicans . . . with Collins and Murkowski on the Republican side. I can see Collins and Murkowski holding the real power here, with them able to deal with the Democrats for some modest ACA reform that actually strengthens the ACA and voting it out of committee 13-10. Not that it will go anywhere in the Senate, of course . . . and the House is a completely different matter.

I would expect that for a time all of the ACA “noes” will be reluctant to get out front, anyway.

The mere possibility of that outcome would never be allowed to happen. No votes from Committee without MAJORITY Republican support. Until then, McTurtle will use these Committee hearings to spread misinformation about the ACA. In other words, any health care legislation is going nowhere fast.
