I don’t really think that’s true anymore. I don’t think they’re, on average, any more courageous than the average politician through the ages, but the real cringers and crawlers are mostly out of office and working (or looking for work) as lobbyists by now. Even Manchin seems to more or less grasp that it’s not possible to vote or behave in a way that will keep them from running ugly commercials against you.

Time to print a few thousand copies of that article, roll them each into nice tight tubes and then beat some everloving sense into the Dems with them like rolled-up newspaper discipline with the dog. But alas, it will do no good, because I guarantee you there are plenty…maybe the majority…of liberals out there reading my comment who just got verklempt and are saying to themselves “my gosh, such violent language…violence solves nothing…we need to appeal to people with reason and kindness…such poopytalk has no place in a civilized society.” FUCK THAT. Instead of “forcing” a debate, why don’t the Republicans just put their proposal on the table? As the article said, the issue has been apparent for some time.

But I’m afraid the Republicans don’t want a good-faith debate, with proposals and discussions going back and forth. I’m afraid, like other manufactured crises, the Republicans will wait until the last minute, and offer some draconian “solution” on a take-it-or-leave-it basis.

Republicans know that their math and logic can’t hold up to sutained scrutiny. Therefore, they position their objectives in such a manner to limit the debate on their proposals, and their elected automotons can claim CRISIS!!! at the top of their lungs to scare their electorate into caving into their induced fears. Fear is the only element Republicans have at their disposal to govern. Logic and the common good, based on sound reason is a foreign concept to them.
