Discussion: Senate Dems To GOP: You're Sure Not Acting Like You Need Us

Fool me once shame on you… fool me again… so the saying goes.

The nitwits on Obamacare who voted for Trump should pay the price, and the Dems shouldn’t try to help them, let alone the killers of the GOP. The nitwits stabbed the Dems in the back on election day.

I include among the nitwits all the third party voters and the non-voters and the resentful Bernie fools. ALL elected Trump.

Moreover, the Dems MUST stop trying to appeal to the white trash, all of whom are guided by self-hatred, and racism, for they will always need others to blame for their life’s failure. Let them drown in their hate.

If any of these fools ever ask me for help as they drown, I’ll gladly throw them an anchor. Ask, please, please ask! I’ll smile as you disappear.

The Repubs don’t need the Dems help in order to carry out their intentions. They will have total control in a very short time and the Dems will become literal seat warmers. The Dems can pretend all they want but the new government will run the table and give the bums-rush for their entire “agenda” all by themselves. The Dems will be without power to effect or affect much of anything.

It should be obvious that the 47% are going to get exactly what they voted for … the shitty end of the stick. Congrats Dems because you were spineless and cowardly when the ACA was created and hid instead of defending it. Therefore a large vocal segment of the citizenry believe it’s “bad” solely because there wasn’t much rebuttal to the “fake news” way back then. They will cheer as their boat sinks.

It won’t take long after installation of our new “overlords” to see the “big picture”. Lordy, lordy we are in for a hell of a ride. At least that’s what I see in my crystal ball.

Try reading before you comment. Not everything can be done through reconciliation, if you understand the idea. The GOP will in fact need the Dems.

This is what happens when you (the GOP) become critics for 7 years. You forget how to draft legislation and allow people to see it. All the GOP has is their behind the scenes maneuvering fuckery. Draft a plan. Let people see it. What are you afraid of?

GOP are killers in three piece suits. You give them too much credit. They want to end Medicare, and kill your grandparents. Get it?

You break it, you bought it! Message that. Get on Twitter and Facebook and TV and everywhere people can see and repeat it. Bang the drum loudly. Same with Medicare and Social Security

Unfortunately, transparency is anathema to these people. Legislative capture means just that, you get legislation written by your funders and lobbyists, and you put some bullshit name on it – and let the public see the name. For example, your sponsor may wish to help himself to public lands containing valuable minerals without paying for it. You call it something like Patriotic American Royalty Relief Act. Or maybe you want 20 million people to die in the streets or at home without a chance of receiving health insurance? Healthy American Medical Efficiency and Cost Savings Act. Even the Affordable Care Act is a bit of a misnomer. As a country, the US still pays way, way, way above the OECD average of 9.5% of GDP, close to double. But as Obama pointed out, it was about bending the curve on rising health care costs. One answer for the Democrats might be just to subject all Republican bills to carry a truth in labeling requirement. So,The Illiteracy and Innumeracy for All Act, The “Short Lives Matter” Medicare Abolition Act, The Muslim Internment and Deportation Act, The Waltons Made Us Do This Act, The What Exxon and Kochs Asked For Act, etc.

The GOP is correct; to carry out their intended plans they actually do not need the Dems. They can end Obamacare with reconciliation, and to later replace it with nothing requires no votes from anyone because no legislation is necessary in order to do nothing.

Note that I’m not saying they’ll go ahead and repeal Obamacare; I’m just saying they can carry out their current intentions without the Dems.

Helping with a replacement plan post repeal is very dangerous for democrats. Republicans WILL use that against tehm in the next campaign. Just like they would use votes to cut social security or medicare against them. There are no grand bargains with Republicans, just cons.

I don’t care how much we spend. I’d rather spend it on helping, than always writing the yearly blank check to the Pentagon, which helps very few.

It’s the scorpion and the frog story. If they are going to douse themselves in gasoline the Dems should hand them a pack of matches.

Quite simply, I wouldn’t bet on McConnell having 51 votes to repeal without any written and [internally] reviewed plan to replace. I doubt he would even have 50 votes + Pence who, by the way, won’t be VP on January 3rd.

But no Dem should participate in this process. Instead, spend every waking moment getting out in front of cameras and telling the American people just how this plays out, including how much higher premiums will rise for those who believe their insurance isn’t affected by repeal of the ACA.

Grab the headlines and, this time, make the messaging work for us!

First, Democrats need to be sure the replacement bill (if any) finally proposed by Republicans is reviewed and scored by the Congressional Budget Office and recognized independent group for how much it will cost, how much it will add to deficit, and how this compares with the ACA they repealed. Health care groups need to weigh in on what coverage is actually provided, how insurance companies will be prevented from denying or dropping coverage, and how costs will be controlled going forward, with a similar comparison to the ACA.
Next, Democrats need to have legislation drafted based on the ACA, that also fixes its current and anticipated problems, and adds a public option; and it should be similarly reviewed and scored.
Let’s see who can best fix the pain, death, and economic disaster the Republicans are getting ready to inflict.

The nervous insurers will have a lot to say about the repeal of Obamacare. They don’t want to give up all that money. This repeal now replace in three years stunt could comeback to bite Republicans in the butt.

I’m sorry but I’m more than a little tired of “bring it on” Shumer talking like a catcher just itching for the runner to steal second.

The runner might make it on his own. The catcher or second baseman could easily make an error. The batter might hit the ball and drive the runner home. And this shit isn’t a game.

Time named Trump “Man of the Year.” It also long ago gave the honor to Hitler.

Some things never change.

I totally understand your opinion (and anger) but I can’t agree with you here. I think the majority of GOP pols belong in one of the lower circles of the Inferno, but we should never wish misfortune on our fellow Americans. However, I do think that if the Republicans are bound and determined to run aground on Obamacare repeal that the Dems have no need to also put their hands on the steering wheel.

Over 18% of GDP. “Free-ridership”, i.e. paid-for inefficiencies in the system, is several hundred billlion dollars a year.
