Trump: This is a direct attack on Putin’s leadership. He deserves a say in our government.
They agreed to this unanimously. This goes beyond solemn expressions of “concern” about matters that are “troubling.” Lately we’re seeing actions. Trump is now pretty much in the position of the cartoon character who’s gone off the cliff but hasn’t realized it yet.
Exactly right, and is really the most important part of this story. REPUBLICANS will be helping Dems run these pro forma sessions. I even believe Murkowski signed up to do the first ones.
Such mixed feelings about this. I despise Sessions leadership at Justice, but certainly don’t want to see Mueller fired.
If the Senate enacts the special counsel bill that’s been proposed to limit Trump’s ability to fire the SC, I’d be happy to see Sessions walk.
And since it’s unanimous Republicans can just have Van Hollen, Cardin, Warner, or Kaine swing by to bang the gavel. No need to waste jet fuel sending a Republican back every three days.
@pshah The special counsel bill co-sponsored by Thom fucking Tillis! Still haven’t gotten over that.
By his own party … that’s gonna leave a mark –
Yeah. There’s a symbolism there that some brave person in his office may dare to explain to Trump.
A bit of copy editing will help. Too many mistakes in this article.
I’m heartened by the bipartisan effort to do this but I’m wary of Republicans actually following through. What do these sessions entail and is it possible for Republicans to easily change course on them through selective memory or otherwise?
Agree. Painful.
The Senate is circling its wagons to protect one of their own.
No. McConnell has enough headaches; the last thing he wants is Donnie hurling another grenade in the powder magazine. Besides, Sessions is a fellow senator and, more than that, a fellow racist.
Interpreting the adage “Lead, follow, or get out of the way” the Senate has moved to the last plea.
This one is bad. It undermines credibility. TPM definitely needs a copy editor, or at least another set of eyes on each story before the author hits ‘post.’
I understand that hiring more investigative reporters is far sexier, but It’s a low profile hire, and one that TPM should make.
McConnell most certainly does not have enough headaches yet. The man deserves all that’s coming to him, and then some! I won’t be satisfied until he needs to take ibuprofen through an I.V. drip.
They agreed to this unanimously.
This, plus the bill that Tillis is co-sponsoring, is a sign of how pissed off Senate Republicans are at Trump. Looks like his attempts at hectoring and browbeating them into submission have backfired spectacularly, as any 10-year old could have predicted.
It also suggests that the Senate Republicans have more than an inkling of the substance of Mueller’s investigation, and are moving to insulate themselves.
This is a type of unity I can live with.
There’s only so many times a General can order you out of the trenches and into withering machine-gun fire (especially if it’s on a whim, purely for his own ego gratification) before you start to take it personally. Maybe even consider a little fragging.
