Discussion: Sen. Perdue Poo-Poos Threats To Stop Filming In GA After Extreme Abortion Law

Now if they would just turn out and vote, this can all be defeated. We aren’t anywhere near to a 100% turnout in any election, so clearly there are too many who aren’t angry enough to make a difference.

I think the real tragedy of abortion is that it’s about 90% avoidable. But Republicans would rather judge women and girls than help families. Let’s be real; it isn’t the impregnating fathers who bear the wrath of judgement.

Between fact-based reproductive health education, universally-available long acting reversible contraceptives and the unfortunately named Plan B, this whole sorry debate could be just about rendered moot. Republicans are in the way of all of it.

Agree.

Therefore, I want to call it a Freudian slip that the title says “poo-poo” instead of the correct “pooh-pooh” but I suspect it’s just another case of lack of editing skills…

I have been saying since the passage of this bill in Georgia that there’re no stipulations as to what should happen to the men in these situations. Nothing about rape. Nothing about incest. Immaculate conception went out with stars in the East and sandals. These women don’t get in this condition by themselves, but they’re the one that bear the brunt of the life sentence, whether by committing the felony by miscarriage or abortion or having to raise a child given them by a criminal. who gets away with the crime and lives to rape again.

Maybe those companies can come down h’yeah and make a film with Stacey Abrams about vote suppression. Put THEIR money where their mouths are.

actors have limited ability to control their films’ production.

Bullshit.
If a top star, like an actor in one of the Marvel movies like Chris Hemsworth or the cast of “Guardians of the Galaxy” or “Black Panther” or others say they aren’t going to film in Georgia because of the abortion laws, then, believe me, they aren’t going to film in Georgia.
Remember when those RW idiots tried to get James Gunn fired from directing “GOTG3” because of some juvenile Tweets he sent years before? The entire cast threatened to walk, and Disney acquiesced REAL fucking fast.

Is there any data to back that up? Also that was right before the election the next GA election is several years out.

Why would people who didn’t vote turn out to vote for a party that finically hurt them by calling for boycotting them? Like I said earlier this just feeds into the ‘neither party cares about my financial problems so fuck em both’

LOTS of people who live in the ATL work on these films from crew to craft services to behind the scenes productions and other support. Most of whom are liberal, that’s who you are fucking over to feel like you hurt someone.

Oh once again all Democrats hops ride on me!!!

Or you know you can stop being an idiot and call for boycotts of business in the actual districts of politicians that support this bill. But that would take a bit of forethought on your part so just fuck the first Georgian you see huh.

The Montgomery city bus boycott had a pretty powerful effect on the civil rights movement. There are no surgical strikes any more against the greed of the wealthy and the hatred of the Bible thumping and white supremicist Republican Party. The people of Georgia have voted these politicians into office…they will have to accept the results. And if the result is pain, even for the wrong ones, that’s sad for them and for the entire state.

The farmers in my state voted like crazy for trump and an amoral asshole (who loves the death penalty) as governor. It’s going to be really sad to see how these farmers fare with crap weather and the Chinese refusing to buy their grain. Land prices have been falling but tax assessments are up, commodity prices are down and the floods have made spring planting a nightmare. But, they’re still saying they want to give trump some more time. I feel bad for their situation, but I don’t feel sorry for them.

First…most of the crew jobs filming in Atlanta are union jobs. The IATSE has over 2100 members in the Atlanta Metro. Its a requirement for many of the projects that are produced that they use unionized workers. Second…boycotting the Georgia Film Industry only punishes people that work on these films…generally left of center people. If you want to punish the goons that passed the law…help the industry. Bring more progressive people to Georgia who can vote!
This boycott is stupid…it should not be pushed by anyone who calls themselves progressive. You sure as hell arent hurting the people that passed the damn law. They probably dont want these people here either.

And I bet since ‘they’ are the ones who will be impacted by this AWFUL LAW they might not hate the idea of somebody trying to get that stopped.

I ‘get’ your argument but if people don’t protest how can they stop this.

You act like everybody should just sit down and ‘smile’ at this.

What are ‘your’ ideas about expressing ‘discomfiture’ at this law? Because ‘me’ “I” am outraged.

I’m not going to tell anyone where to live … that’s their choice … for their own reasons—

I’m not going to tell anyone where to work …that’s their choice … for their own reasons—

I’m not going to tell anyone where to spend their money …once again …their choice —

I’m not going to tell anyone to boycott … or not to … they have their own reasons —

I will not take it personally —

Now … afford me the same courtesy … Thank you very much —

I was saddended when Perdue eked out a win against Stacey Abrams. His win was so close that it seemed extremely suspicious considering the political hanky-panky that goes on in many states and especially in the South when a black woman is very very close to winning an election for governor. I was not surprised by his very very close win. He will be another awful governor and Georgia has had some doozies in the past. When I moved there in the early 60’s it was the guy who liked to brandish an axe handle. But there were also a number of governors who were not totally awful. The OrangeHorror has so divided this country in every way possible that Abrams was a long shot to win unfortunately. But she came very very close and that should scare the pants off of Perdue and his minions.

The insanely harsh abortion law will be history and hopefully not too many lives will be ruined or crippled by it. My husband and I moved to the west coast in 86. I enjoyed living in the Atlanta suburb where we built our dream house. Within a decade that suburb and others around it had turned black. We had black neighbors when we lived there but white flight apparently ruined any idea of a mixed race subdivision. This is a perpetual problem in the South.

If we vote out the OrangeHorror and many of the creatures who support him hopefully the harsh abortion laws will also be voted out as the poisonous culture that he cultivated & encouraged receeds. One can hope. I have family in Georgia. I wish they were closer so I could see them more than once in a blue moon.

Hopefully once the OrangeHorror is evicted from the White House the level of hatred and division in this country will decline. But I also know there is a culture deeply entrenched in the southern states and a few others that is toxic. Changing that any time soon probably isn’t going to happen.

Yep. Seems that a record of success for the tactic is more persuasive than your surmises. Shocking, just shocking how liberals can be influenced by facts. Clearly shows bias.

Why do you keep ignoring the threat the these laws pose to.the lives of women who come from.out of state to work on these films?
