Discussion: Seattle Stranger Epically Trolls Dems With Caucus Endorsement(s)

This could almost be seen as a kind of unscientific social experiment as opposed to a way to troll Dems…but the bottom line expressed in the article to go out and vote for the Democratic nominee this November just about says it all. I hope they take that to heart and heed the advice no matter who the candidate is on the Democratic side. Its that important.

What, no mention of the fact that these are the same candidate pics used in the Bernie or Hillary? memes.

One of those covers fills me with white-hot fury, but I haven’t decided which one.

I am almost there myself. I am trying to get the energy up to face a bunch of young Bernie supporters on Sunday. I did not think I would be caucusing this year, and I still am not sure if I want to. The thing is, I don’t dislike Bernie that much and I don’t like Hillary that much. So I am left, like many of Mrs. Clinton’s supporters, with an enthusiasm problem.

I think you will find that the problem vanishes after the primary.

I guarantee it.

I think some of this is just Obama – he’s a hard act to follow. I’d vote for him a third term if I could. I’m gonna miss that guy. But at the same time, once we are in the general, Trump should be motivation enough for the base to get out and fight.

You said it first. OMG. I just read the Trump/Cruz post and insinuations of Cruz mistresses.

Whether it’s Trump or Cruz, this has been and is going to continue to be the most insanely stupid and embarrassing presidential election season ever - edited to add because of the republicans and their childish, bullying behavior. November can’t come soon enough.

Yikes.

I do not understand how keeping Republicans out of office isn’t enough of an incentive to vote. For crying out loud, look at what just happened in Indiana and North Carolina.

Do your civic duty with pride ealleniii. And make a passionate case in your caucus for Hillary and that will shut down those Bernie Bros.

It obviously should be a no-brainer to vote for the D candidate this fall. Kudos to the Seattle Stranger to make light of the in-fighting.

On the other hand I think the party can afford to keep the contest going to get a wider discussion started as to what the Democratic party should stand for.

Maybe more important is that the ILWU (longshoreman) 50,000 union on the west coast just endorsed Bernie.

Thanks for the post.

–BOOST FOR BERNIE
SANDERS PICKS UP A MAJOR UNION ENDORSEMENT–

That came from HuffPo.

The endorsement, along with Bernie’s recent “conditions” for supporting Hillary Clinton in the General could be seen as “blackmail” by some (I do not look at it that way).

In any event, Bernie has built up a tremendous following and presence which will have to be recognized.

Let me add also that there is historical pressure on Sanders. If he does anything which reduces the possibility of averting a GOP victory in November (not only for President but also Down Ticket), he will bear some immediate and historical responsibility for President Trump/Cruz.

Nah, Stranger all the way.

When I lived in Seattle the preferences where (1) The Stranger, (2) PI, (3) Seattle Weekly and (4) Seattle Times. Stranger and PI more progressive while the Weekly was middle of the road and the Times right wing.

Just to be clear, WA state caucus is on Saturday, not Sunday.

Agreed. Those who are saying they won’t vote for Clinton or are calling her evil will realize how insane they sound when she’s debating a guy threatening to nuke ISIS, one who is heavily supported by white supremacists and may actually spark a race war, who would turn the clock way back on women’s rights, deport 11 million people, and makes the most feverish nightmares of Sanders supporters view of HRCs economic policies look like Noam Chomsky’s. It’s going to be really tough to make this high minded, principled argument for not voting for “warhawk” HRC when the other option is a guy who is likely to start WWIII with our allies when some dignitary makes some crack about his comb over.

The People’s Republic of Seattle will support whoever becomes the Dem nominee. I would imagine that many of us are of two minds - our hearts belong to Bernie because we believe that the nation needs some fairly radical change to the status quo in taxation, education and social policy in general. However, we also realize that a Sanders presidency is likely to be Carter II with him being fought by the Dems as much as the Rethugs without electing a House and Senate with progressive majorities.

Clinton would hit the ground running, but she offers the same sort of middle ground gradualist approach as Obama and, as with Sanders, lacking majorities in Congress, will get little done, but would not hesitate to veto the stupid shit that a Rethug majority Congress will try to pass.

The “warhawk” commentator needs to be taken out with a drone strike.

I’ll be there – but expect that it won’t be as fun as it was in 2008 when we all turned out for Obama. I’m going to be hanging with my fellow decrepit neighbors in the Hillary camp. The thing that was really funny about the Stranger issue, is that to read the endorsement you were asked to state your age. There was an option to decline to state age, but I fell for it and answered honestly. After that, it took me to a Hillary endorsement – and would not even me read the Sanders endorsement. They must have sent a cookie to my browser to block the counter argument that would not go away even with rebooting. That was the real trolling – that we couldn’t even read or hear the other side! I found it later on another website. BTW, the HRC argument was written in classical formal tone - very logical. The Sanders one was written like a Facebook post – casual language, full of cussing – it was completely obvious how they were having fun with us.
