Everyone who shits on Schumer (and sometimes its me) needs to remember that everything he does he does with the support of his caucus, and, often because whatever he says and does is the best he can do with the caucus he has.

A Democratic SMJ is more like the Commissioner of Baseball than the Speaker of the House. He’s an ostensible leader selected by powerful people jealous of their power to lead them exactly as much as they want to be led and no more and who will fire him if he doesn’t. And ever since they got LBJ off their backs, they’ve been most careful to keep it that way.

ETA: But a flip phone? Seriously?

The distinct advantage we have right now is a lot of new energy and the guidance of Nancy and Chuck who have been to the dance before. They are both seasoned professionals AND they can count

Inability to access Twitter just might be the secret source of Schumer’s superpower.

I’m not sure what the point of this article is. A beat-sweetener, it looks like.

“A vintage flip phone”, there’s no such thing. Who cares what kind of phone he has, is he still able to do his job on this phone?

Kind of an aside but relevant. Can someone make Chuck Todd and other talking heads in MSM STFU with their crap about how Dems are caving if they agree to border fencing. The Dems were never against fixing, replacing. or even adding fencing it was always included in border security. What they refused was money for Trump’s Sea to Shining Sea Border Wall/fence/slats. :rage::angry:

A flipphone (I’m referring to the technology, not the form factor) is much less vulnerable to hacking than a 4G smartphone. App-based exploits don’t work at all, and exploits of 4G hardware and software insecurities don’t work at all. It can still be defeated by SS7 hacks of the phone network, but no more easily than your thousand-dollar fondleslab. Do you really want Schumer’s communications to be as easily monitored as Trump’s?

And because Trump didn’t, couldn’t, or wouldn’t spell out what type of barrier he was promoting, what “border security” meant to him this is why he owned the shut down.

Hell even if we didn’t have Russia interfering with our election, why would any rational thinking person trust Don the Con with that amount of money and no detailed plans?

Agree Schumer has some pluses and minuses.

However the flip phone is not one of the above. Call me an old schumer, but a flip phone is like an old style phone in design (poetic adherence?), is comparatively light (v. iPhone), and most importantly is compact and light in your pocket. I actually do not have any cell phone anymore (my son took mine), but if I need the internet or the twitfest, there are phones/tablets/computers everywhere, and you can always ask the 99% of your friends, “while you are talking to me while scanning your smartphone, could you look up xyz?” “or call 911?”

Todd is a disgraceful replacement for Tim Russert if not David Gregory. So much false equivalency. So much bothsiderism. So much pandering.

I had a problem with Nicolle Wallace having Steve Schmidt on today singing the praises of Schultz. I realize Schultz hasn’t announced yet, but that made me feel uncomfortable, especially because of the close relationship she and Schmidt have. But the other panelists gave him what-for, so maybe it wasn’t so bad after all.

Schmidt saying that the far-left was instrumental in going after Schultz was ridiculous. Maybe the whole thing is ridiculous.

My husband and I both use flip phones. Why? We just want a phone. We use laptops to go online. We have Consumer Cellular. $22 per month is not bad.

OMG I had to turn it off, I couldn’t take him and his BS

What do you mean?

+1 And I might add that unlike Pelosi, Schumer was/is in the minority. He can’t hold hearing, get documents, put forward bills or usually even amendments. All he can do is slow things down and get people to vote against things. And he had in the last congress be very careful given he had so many members who were running for reelection in Trump states. Now that 2018 is passed, and his members feel much better about standing up to Trump (with four moderates gone) and also no one really vulnerable in 2020, he is able to be much more aggressive.

With Nancy backing him, and a good 2020 map before him, Schumer can afford to be much more creative.

Now the guy on with Melber just made a great point. When you’re trying to identify people who are far-left, look at the economic policies they espouse. If they benefit the middle class, then they’re centrists as far as economic policy is concerned. (Edited)

Krugman delivered some smack today in response to Gary Cohn.

Terrific analogy: “Dem SMJ ( and)…baseball commissioner v. owners…”.
Thanks for that!
