Discussion: Schumer Calls For Al Franken To Resign From The Senate

I have left the Democratic Party. I have officially informed my Senators and Representatives. I have informed the local party to not contact me for anything. A party that eats its own does not represent me.

That tapping sound you hear is the final nail entering the coffin.

I’m gonna go way out on a limb here and predict that tomorrow’s announcement will be that Franken is resigning.

It’ll be good to have all of this behind us. I hope Governor Dayton picks a more worthy successor.

Now that it is obvious Al is announcing his resignation, everyone wants to go on record first.

Just imagine how the Fuckin’ Moron REAL Groper and his REAL sexist allies will be having a victory lap tomorrow. In so, so many ways Franken was their big target to hit, both substantive and symbolic.

I want to vomit.

Well I’m glad that the Democratic party is moving towards a lower level of tolerance toward sexual harassment, groping and other sexual misconduct. In the big picture, that’s good for the party and the country, and it’s good for women (and men) working in Congressional offices and so on.

At the same time I’m troubled by the lack of clear standards or a fair process for deciding whether a given person has actually committed the acts they are accused of.

A) we can get rid of Trump in '20.

B) Roy Moore and Mitch McConnell need to be conjoined twins, until one or both are gone.

C) Dislike of a supposed injustice killed the party in '16.

D) This story is ‘seeping’ into that governor’s race…

E) Either the Democrats are serious about sexual harassment or they aren’t.

F) ‘45’'s allegations can still be addressed

While the Tweeden story initially hobbled him, considering what she said, it would probably have ended his career as well.

Franken is damaged goods in any case. If he sticks around (which at this point I doubt), I don’t think he’d survive the inevitable primary.

Followed immediately by allegations against Schumer for whatever the hell is the outrage du jour.

About fucking time Chuckie. Sad.

What’s at the heart of this moronic strategy is to sacrifice Franken purely for the right to turn to Trump and demand he resign too. What a friggin’ joke; as if Trump would ever do the right thing regardless of how many people nailed themselves to a cross to prove the point. Holy shit, the Dems are so god damned incapable of fighting the putrid GOP. It won’t matter one iota to the republicans that Franken resigns; it’ll embolden them. Then, we’ll have Moore and the horrible replacements for Flake, McCain, Corker, etc. Just watch as the Dems also figure out how to botch the mid terms. It should be a Dem wipe out of the crooked GOP, but it’ll probably turn out that the rethugs GAIN seats. What fucking country do I live in?

Agreed

Especially seeing how the Democratic candidates are currently split along gender lines on this subject.

My somewhat worry is next week, if Moore wins, gets seated and nothing happens, then folks might clamor for Franken to run in the special.

Waited to see which way the wind was blowing, Chuck? How principled.

Franken is gone, but sounds like we’ll get a decent replacement. The only question now is which Democrat the right-wing and compliant media will go after next that will occupy as much if not more top of the fold space as a child molester, make that two, one possibly coming into the Senate and one sitting in the Oval office.

He must have just got his orders from Goldman Sachs…

I shouldn’t, but that’s close to a decent description of Schumer
