Wouldn’t surprise me. AT ALL.
And what “higher obligation” is that? to resign and expect Schumer to become the bulldog questioner and progressive that Franken is? Bullshit. I suppose in the end they’ll force Franken out. His accusers will get their satisfaction but the collateral damage to America will be huge. I doubt a single Democrat has given that any thought.
I find the reactions here amazing.
I don’t see it. Never underestimate a Minnesotan’s obnoxious ability to passive-aggressively explain how, deep down, he’s a better person than you are.
At this point, especially after the the accusation-apology-accusation-apology cycle has turned over a few times, Franken’s lost the mantel of sincerity. I think for a substantial chunk of the electorate, he’s just not a good enough man to represent them (that’s the camp I’m in, anyway).
In the name of moral purity we are going to hand over every last bit of influence to the far right.
Mostly depressing for me. More rooting for “our guy” and rooting out the vast right-wing conspiracy behind his dirtbagginess, comparatively less interest in decency.
On Fox, they’re openly discussing the Franken situation as really bad for the GOP… once Franken resigns it’s:
When it comes to sexual misconduct the Democrats purge; the Republicans protect.
Highly ironic from the company built by Ailes, O’Reilly, etc. – but they’re right. That will be one memorable election phrase for 2018.
The least he could do would be to start calling out some GOP senators that have engaged in the same type of activity.
Rumor has Keith Ellison replacing Al. Don’t want him to go but KE would make the GOP go apes–. Of course, then they’d start with the Mandingo meme.
This takes me back to the early years of Bush 43 when the Democrats were called the mommy party and the GOP the daddy party. I thought it was a demeaning joke then but now I think there is a lot of truth to it. The notion that kicking Franken out of the Senate is a positive step that will somehow influence next Tuesday’s Alabama vote is a sick joke. If the party can’t show some spine on this, how can we expect it to fight voter suppression? We rolled over in 2000 in Gore v Bush and we have continued to wimp out ever since. R.I.P the Democratic Party.
Umm…it’s pretty obvious.
A Democrat is guilty and will lose their job. A republican may as well be innocent and will not lose his job.
But hey, at least Roy Moore was slightly inconvenienced on his way to the Senate. So it was all worth it.
I’m betting Sherrod Brown. Super liberal, and in a swing state.
Hey Eric…let me tell you a story about “good enough men”. A guy starts having headaches. After a couple of months he sees a doctor and is told he has a brain tumor. There are only two surgeons qualified to do the operation. One is a deacon in his church, family man never had so much as a parking ticket in his life. He has a 85% success rate in that surgical procedure. They other is a bit more of a free spirit. Been busted a few times for smoking pot, divorced 3 times and spends a bit to much time at the dog track. He has a 97 % success rate. Who is the “better man” to wield a knife inside your head? Franken’s legislative efforts are epic. Courageous, smart and focused. He will not be replaced even if you put a F’en Saint in his place. So what do you want? A fierce liberal and a nice one?
Rumor has Keith Ellison replacing Al. Don’t want him to go but KE would make the GOP go apes–. Of course, then they’d start with the Mandingo meme.
“There are only two surgeons qualified”
Silly and contrived example is silly and contrived. There are many Democrats in Minnesota who I would vote for before I would vote again for Al Franken.
Missed opportunity:
Sexual Misconduct - Republicans Binge, Democrats Purge
Al Franken: Too liberal for a Democrat. Al and Elizabeth Warren need to clear the field so a triangulator can be nominated in 2020. That’ll bring us together!
I wonder how Warren’s purge will be staged? And Sanders is a socialist, doncha know. Darker days ahead for the Wellstone Wing. But don’t you just hate Trump more than anything? So it’s all good.
Schumer is giving me Joe Lieberman flashbacks using his elected position to serve Israel.
Absolutely agree. On both counts, especially the vomiting.
