It isn’t everyone. It is the entire Republican Party and establishment however. Which remains true.
The background check amendment was on voted in the Senate after Sandy Hook, and received majority support 54-46, but Republicans filibustered it so it needed 60 votes to pass. 41 of those who voted against it were Republicans. It the 5 Democrats who voted against it had voted in favor it still would not have reached 60 in favor.

Everyone on this thread is much more eloquent than me. John Stewart said it best and I will reuse, The words that come out of Rick Santorum’s mouth are the height of douchebaggery. It is so sad to see the failure of Rick Santorum’s parents and teachers from teaching him the golden rule to keep one’s mouth shut unless you had something important, relevant and intelligent to say or a response to a direct question. Something our current president (god that makes me sick to say) should have learned.

This is a sign of the bubble now inhabited by the far right. Since they’ll applaud any criticism of Hogg, Gonsalez et al., they don’t really understand when they’re saying stupid things. So Santorum probably felt free to say any old thing provided it was negative and critical. None of his friends noticed he was about to put his foot in his mouth.
