Discussion: Sanders Sarcastically Thanks Bill Clinton For Being His 'Psychoanalyst'

The former editor of the Burlington Free Press who covered Bernie for about eight years has some things to say about him, and he begins with

Here’s my problem with Bernie Sanders. With few exceptions, I agree with his positions on issues. But I don’t like him or his political temperament. He’d be an awful president.

Sanders was always full of himself: pious, self-righteous and utterly humorless. Burdened by the cross of his socialist crusade, he was a scold whose counter-culture moralizing appealed to the state’s liberal sensibilities as well as its conservatives, who embraced his gun ownership stance, his defense of individual rights, an antipathy toward big corporations and, generally speaking, his stick-it-to-them approach to politics.

That’s never been my favorite kind of progressive. One big reason to top my list: They tend not to get elected. There’s more, but that’ll do to go on with.

And this ā€œshe started itā€ argument is just warmed-over Trumpish whining. Bernie’s just shrinking before our eyes with all this. It’s a shame.

Succinct description from a long time observer!

I got really tired of Bubba ā€˜helping’ Hillary in 2008… and I’ve said it here a couple times…

while it’s sorta commendable that he wants to defend his wife I have to think that that’s just as much of a knee-jerk sexist reaction as he’s accusing Sanders of…

Hillary is a smart, intelligent and experienced woman… she really doesn’t need Bubba’s help here… she’s perfectly capable of defending herself…

Sanders continued saying the Clinton campaign had become ā€œvery negativeā€ and ā€œabout to beat us up.ā€

Project much?

As it turns out Bernie is an OLD-FART. Explain to me BERNIE, how it is that your CAMPAIGN stole records FROM the DNC…AND you admitted you knew about it, but YOU said you didn’t condone it AND YOU SAID, those records WOULD NEVER be used… WHY am I getting e-0mails from YOUR campaign??? I NEVER registered with you. I unsubscribed to the DNC years ago…I’m registered with HILLARY’S campaign. BERNIBE SANDERS IS A F’G LAIR.

FEEL THE BERN??? Ya YOU will BERNIE after YOU FIND out who NY LOVES…
We’re going to SCORCH THE EARTH WITH YOU BERNIE

But his supporters are getting nastier by the day.

Had to laugh looking at the HIVE the other day on the topic of ā€œWe (Bernie supporters) told you (our fellow liberals) soā€ - I’ve been reading TPM for 16 years and hardly recognize anyone on that thread and after briefly reading through it, it appears to be a circle jerk conversation amongst themselves. The title to that thread is so childish it should be embarrassing.

It makes me sad that their demeanor reminds me of the Tea Baggers with better spelling.

Here’s the thing about that, though. As a woman, I can tell you that more often than not, when you point out sexism, the response you get, especially from men, is that you either don’t know what you are talking about, you are overreacting, or, my favorite, that you are just being ā€œsensitive.ā€ So, for many women, we know it’s there but we can’t call it out without being dismissed.

I think this is the same thing that Obama faced with race in 2008. He knew there was some coded and not so coded racism being tossed in his direction, but if he was the one who called it out, he’d be accused of ā€œusing the race cardā€ even by some people who were supporters. The speech Obama gave on race in March 2008 was one of the most thoughtful and beautiful addresses he’s ever given, yet he still received a lot of push back.

I don’t think it was until the rise of the Tea Party that it became starkly clear for a lot of white people that there was and still is an ugly racist underbelly in this country. I am left to wonder what it will take for all of us to be able to admit that there is still sexism that needs to be addressed? What could/should Hillary say to bring it to the spotlight and even if she chose to speak the truth, would we be ready to admit that she’s right?

My take is, it is a knee jerk response to defend his own record.

Rebecca Schoenkopf at Wonkette has been very funny about all this backseat squabbling. Her latest warning in a Bernie-oriented post:

Remember, kids, THEY’RE BOTH GOOD. THEY’RE BOTH FINE, and anybody being more of a dick than usual in the comments will be banished back to Daily Kos with a quickness.

I commend that thought to the mods here. : )

This is what Clinton fatigue feels like. And it’s only April.

I started as a Warner supporter… when she passed I moved to Bernie… now I’m leaning toward neutral

but honestly… I want the bickering to stop… it’s NOT necessary and doesn’t advance what should be a civilized conversation about ISSUES…

leave the bullshit to the Republicans…

Where has she been negative? That’s incredibly not true. It’s an excuse because his campaign is so very negative - it might as well be run by Goodman and I’m not sure it isn’t.

Can’t hear Clinton over the bickering of her ā€œsupportersā€. Certainly her supporters are nothing but negative. Belligerently, repulsively, relentlessly negative; and it has rubbed off on the candidate, or, more likely, it emanates from the candidate. I mean why would ā€œsupportersā€ go out of their way to tick people off unless their candidate asked them to?

I’m confused at your response. Can you help me understand, what in my response you would construe as either uncivilized or bullshit?

O please - go to HuffPo open any random election story and read the nastiness from the Sanders camp. It has been like this from the very start. Are you going to maintain that people like Goodman haven’t been publishing crap all over the internet for over 6 months with titles like: Hillary is a cancer on the body politic; Hillary will bring back the draft; Hillary is the biggest war hawk in the country; Hillary is worse than Hitler - ok I made up the last one.

I didn’t make up the rest.

I’ve taken down my subscription to HuffPo; I’ve had unfriend I don’t know how many people on Facebook for the truly vicious things they have posted about Hillary - nonstop all the time. Hillary supporters have not been nasty in that way.

So your excuse is ā€œthey started itā€. How childish.
