1.5%
Now that’s a matter that needs to be addressed with her and her staff, but 1.5% (49.8-48.3) was the margin of victory.
As for
"When they begin to look at the reality of politics today, and that is virtually every national poll and almost all of the statewide polls that have Bernie Sanders against Donald Trump, we do better and in some cases much, much better than Hillary Clinton does against Trump," he said.
Today is March 9th,2016…please make a note of it.
That’s a little less tight than the Iowa results… Hillary won that one by 4 votes. ![]()
How can this even be remotely possible? Sanders has never been attacked relentlessly by the likes of Rump.
MI is, essentially, one of the failed states of the Midwest that has failed precisely because its citizens decided to either vote for a Rethug legislature OR just not vote at all. It’s now a situation where we’ve got two people telling the electorate the country has gone to sh*t and they’ve arrived to make it right again. They’ll just fix it like it was in the past and make it right. Either a crazed capitalist or a crazed socialist.
EDIT TO ADD: It’s clear that Sanders understands that, for the most part, he doesn’t have a diverse coalition of followers. The states he cites where he thinks they can win, for the most part CA excluded, don’t have a large minority pop.
Pretty sure anybody will be able to beat Trump in the general election. But go Bernie!!
“But as the map moves forward and we move, for example, into the west, California, Washington, Arizona, Oregon, Wisconsin…”
Ah, harkening back to the good old days of the Northwest Territory. ![]()
Uh, no. Not anybody. The American people can be suckered into a lot of REALLY bad stuff. What may seem totally obvious to us isn’t anywhere near as clear to many people. Sure, the idea of the state of CA being run by a Rethug has been actor in the 21st century sounds ridiculous on its face. But Schwarzenegger won and was re-elected.
When Americans are told to choose between a hugely successful businessman and an elderly socialist, we’ll find out the hard way not just anybody could beat Rump.
Sanders and Trump have lots of unusual cross-over appeal. I fear if Bernie loses to HRC, his working class fans will all go to Trump. I think HRC retaining Sanders voters is going to be a really difficult thing.
I think you’re right. The base constituents of both want to be told that there’s some kind of glorious past that can be recaptured. No real specifics of how these ideas can be achieved although Sanders has at least come close to providing some ideas. But I’m convinced that the followers of both aren’t really listening to what they’re being told; they’re listening some kind of implied ideas for which the people are filling in the blanks.
I agree. They won’t necessarily vote for any Republican, though. What I hear all the time in the MA / NH / ME area is a deep reluctance to vote for Hillary Clinton. Not arguing any justification, just saying it’s there and doesn’t appear to be easily changed.
I think Trump is helped by the “anybody but Hillary” voters and Bernie is helped more by the “anybody but Trump” folks.
Bernie’s superior performance in head-to-head general election polling may well be due to what appears to be a deliberate Republican strategy not to criticize him or to fear-monger–which they would not hesitate to do for a moment were he the nominee.
Agree. The long assault on her electability seems to have been very effective. The RWNJs have certainly spent enough time and effort on it, and lord knows the Clintons aren’t shy about toeing ethical boundaries.
Problem being the “anybody but Trump” folks voting for Sanders in the primary would become the “anybody but Sanders” folks in the general.
I’m sure the Republicans have been very busy with opposition research into Sanders’ past.
Well, Hillary can beat Trump. However, Bernie can also beat Trump. So far so good.
Hillary can put much of her governing ideas and agenda into practice and navigate at least some of it through Clowngress.
But…uh-oh:
Bernie’s governing ideas are anathema to nearly every segment of the Republican party and unfortunately, to the remaining Blue Dog Corporatist Democrats as well…and it would take a miracle to get his agenda passed through Clowngress.
I’ll take Hillary.
Californians (of which I am one) are notorious for not turning out to vote in elections because it is usually a foregone conclusion democrats will win no matter what. The same almost holds true for republicans who don’t usually win in our state but they do vote anyway. Swarzenneger won in a very strange year after democrats were in denial that our governor was going to be recalled. Let’s face it the celebrity thing was in play also along with a porn star and other unlikely candidates/
no not the primaries. I was talking about the general. The right is particularly rabid when it comes to Hillary. I think she would energize the Republican base
The GOP and its media outlets are itching to unload. If Bernie is the nominee, get ready to hear commie pinko screamed from the rooftops like it was the glory days of Joe McCarthy.
I don’t think this meme is at all accurate. IMO the only Sanders/Trump crossovers are the “revolutionaries” who want to burn it all down. This is perhaps 10=15% of the Bernie acolytes.
