Discussion: Sanders: 'Our Democracy is Being Owned by a Handful of Billionaires'

Discussion for article #235856

I saw a Koch Bros image spot on TV last night and had to chuckle…Wow, only 8+ years too late with this campaign, boys. All your image commercial will do is remind people to think, “Oh, those assholes…”
Luck, Bernie!

Damn, came here to post exactly this and missed it by a minute.

I know he’s got no chance at winning the nomination but I’m 100% in his corner - I love this guy

Close Bernie…the term is “pwned.”

“I am not going to start a super PAC. I’m not going to go around the country talking to millionaires. Now I’m saving my time because they wouldn’t give me any money anyhow and that’s fine”

Love this guy. He’s not exactly electable, but man, you just gotta love him.

I understand, my friend.

I wish I could Xerox the guy.

He has my enthusiastic support. Even if it’s just to pull HRC to the left. But I hope he makes it far enough to least get in a debate with her, because I think he’d smoke her.

Hillary to Bill: “Did you just goose me?”

Bill: “No baby, that was Bernie”.

“So do I have concerns about the Clinton Foundation and that money? I do,” Sanders continued. “But I am concerned about Sheldon Adelson and his billions. I’m concerned about the Koch Brothers and their billions. We’re looking at a system where our democracy is being owned by a handful of billionaires.”

What??? No George Soros and the like in the list? Holy cow, they are going to have a fit!!!

The Clinton Foundation is a charitable organization, not a PAC.

Exactly. How one can draw parity between oil men’s money going directly to politicians and donations to a charity is a little beyond me.

Bernie is being a bit coy here. He is calling out the billionaires that are having their way with our elections and vis-a-vis our government but he’s taking a mild back handed swipe at Hillary whilst doing it. This just reinforces the right wing conspiracies that will be turned towards him as well that will be taken seriously for some unknown, unprovable reasons also too.

Bernie can do a lot of good and already is, but since he is not about money(?) why sell out and damage what he is about? He should just stick to his message and not go negative.

Correct! Run, Bernie, run! Ask Elizabeth Warren to be your VP.

Mister Schmeid Goes To Washington.

A dream of an idea.

@ leftflank

Bernie doesn’t want to let the media steer him into talking about their obsession, Clinton “scandals.” He’s got more important things to talk about. So he isn’t going to attack Hillary for it but he isn’t going to get sucked into defending her either and give the media the story they want but that he doesn’t want.

Agree, but as an upside, talking about it with an adult (Bernie) may give her a chance to put that crap to rest before having to deal with a crazy person (any GOP) screaming it alternately with BENGHAZI!!1!!.

So, he’s screwed either way. He didn’t need to mention it was my point, now he has to choose sides and both are losers as you just pointed out.

The hard truth is that Sanders likely doesn’t have a snowball’s chance in hell of even being nominated. His whole mission is awareness and pushing the progressive/fair agenda. Hillary needs Bernie Sanders and to get his/our agenda implemented he also needs her. Just like Elizabeth Warren, they aren’t enemies and will make great allies.
Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren will be huge assets and checks with Hillary. It will be a great team.

To us yes but the nuts only get nuttier. Its in their DNA.

Ben Ghazi has been relegated to side dish status just like birtherism and teleprompters were. The new best hope for the weakly represented right is making all that they can out of the charity and the both sides are buying government angle.

Every potential GOP Presidential candidate has way more dirt and disqualifying pasts. They can only win by trying to bring Hillary down to their level.

Bernie Sanders doesn’t need to play spoiler. I want him to run and am really interested in his thoughts but nicking away at Hillary is a mistake in the long run I think.

I think Bernie will be good, not just for the eventual Democratic nominee but the election.
Bernie is focused on income inequality, the need to create jobs, and help poor and working people.
Hillary has been moving in this direction, so she needn’t be worried about being forced to move left.
The Republicans can’t, or won’t, address these problems, and candidate Bernie bringing attention to these issues will turn the heat up on them.
