Discussion: Sanders Gives Concession Speech: 'We Have Made Some Real Progress'

Discussion for article #246265

He came closer than thought . . .

But as the old tried and true saying goes…

Close only counts in horseshoes, hand grenades, and nuclear bombs…

He’s a very very good man…

I wouldn’t mind him appointed to Secretary of the Treasury, although highly doubtful Hillary would do that.

I am so tired of Sanders continual harping about Wall Street and our rigged economy. If he has specific examples state what they are and what the resolution of the problem is. In my case my father was a semi skilled laborer with an eighth grade education. Of my six siblings five went to college with four getting degrees ( two doing graduate work, one with a masters one almost doctorate). Our two children both have advanced degrees from college, one masters and one LLM. So the world is not totally rigged against the comman guy. We as a democracy can not survive unless we have a sense of community. Constantly beating the drum of negativity does not help our country. That is not to say we don’t have things to work on, we definitely do, but let us work on it as a community with ownership in society. Additionally I have been to a Bernie rally. Again he rants in generalities against Wall Street and the rigged economy as many of those in the crowd rely on Wall Street for their 401K to give the return they need.

Please do not take this to mean there are not truths in Bernie’s message - there are. For me the message needs to be more specific, more sense of community, and far more uplifting.

Enough of my soap box!

It would be nice, if more folks like Bernie would open businesses and run them their way …the market will decide who’s right – I say this as a businessman and Credit Union member.

Well, if we had decent pensions, we wouldn’t need these 401Ks whose main purpose is to transfer wealth into the banking system. All that money I’ve got saved up in my 401K - I’m going to lose somewhere between 10 and 20% just to “management fees”, aka brokers and banks skimming off the top.

Media will desperately try to keep the horserace going as long as possible, but I just don’t see any viable path for Bernie to 2400 delegates. The only reason this is considered a race is because Democrats kicked off the primary with two lily-white States and two caucuses in the first three contests. Switch out New Hampshire with Michigan or Florida on the schedule and Hillary is already gearing up for the general.

Well, get a stock index fund and avoid the fees. And try voting in off year elections. I’m a real supporter of traditional defined benefit pension plans, but I’m tired of the bellyaching and the transference of that bellyaching to the Bernie Sanders ’ magical thinking.

Oy the media - even the so-called straight media. I think the looks of disappointment on MSNBC about Nevada were almost as deep as on Fox (where I click over to for shits and giggles, as on both Obama wins). It might be time for me to switch to CNN though. I can’t take too much more of Andrea Mitchell’s sneering. Mrs Alan Greenspan wants Bernie to be the Dem candidate and she’s not even trying to hide it now.

Only if she had lost her mind. I cannot imagine that Bernie knows or cares much more about finance and economics than he has already shared with us. She would appoint Krugman in a heartbeat, I think, but I doubt he would go for it because he needs to retain his independent credibility.

I am in a dispute with my bank right now about an arbitrary change to my IRA. I think you need to contact your Congressperson and ask for help. I have been pleasantly surprised that even my Republican Congressman has been willing to give me some help and direction in my dispute with my bank. Do not take that kind of mess of skimming your account lying down!

That’s is for Bernie. He was given 2 caucus in 3 states states with primarily all white majority populations and he lost 2 of the 3. The left media has been trying to push the narrative that Bernie is making a run. HOGWASH !!! I’m a life long moderate democrat and I have to say that I could never vote for him. I just can’t. Sanders is a one trick pony of economic inequality. In a world inter-related globally with major foreign policy issues I just can’t see him being a successful president. In the debates he seems over his head and at times it looks sad. I’m not thrilled with the party anointing Hillary at all but it’s the only viable choice now. Unfortunately. Though I’m not thrilled with the choice the options of Trump and Cruz are absolute HELL NO’s !!!

Now with South Carolina and Super Tuesday it’s time to watch Bernie feel the Bern and get run over by the demographics of minorities who are also part of the democratic party. Nice knowing you Bernie. It’s over now… Make nice and unite the party.

Sanders said that this result showed that he could win anywhere, when actually it showed that he can only win in very White states, with a coalition that doesn’t represent the Democratic party or the future demographics of the United States.

Bernie has brought an important change to the conversation in regards to economic issues in this country, but he has consistently dismissed the concerns of those from oppressed background, be them LGBT individuals, or Women, or people of color, as secondary to his economic revolution. Things that will get fixed after the really important stuff gets taken care.

He has prioritized ideological purity over policy based on research and evidence. He’s polarized the left, and really surfaced very ugly sexist and racist tendencies among many of his supporters. I hope that Sanders starts moving towards the positive campaign he promised to run, rather than the constant insults, innuendos, and smears that his campaign has been spewing.

He has polarized the left (I shudder at the thought of looking at Daily Kos). IMO he is not responsible for the sexist tendencies of his supporters, but has been a vehicle for them. I look forward to the ending of the insults and innuendo.

It’s time for the Bern to Learn.

He concedes that he doesn’t take Wall Street money, or maybe they aren’t offering much(?) and that he is in a virtual tie.
He concedes that if the past is prologue, he’ll win but it ain’t.

He gave up nothing for Hillary and the Democrat Party but accepted more than he should’ve for himself and his crew.
I feel Berned!

I’m very dubious of Entrance Polls, but the Nevada entrance polls had Hillary with a 76 to 23 percent advantage in block voters. Even if those polls just mildly exaggerate the difference, that’s pretty much all she wrote for Bernie. He can’t change that course of direction in time with South Carolina, Georiga, Arkansas, Alabama, Tennessee, Michigan and Mississippi all coming up within the next ~15 days. Hillary just needs to sit back, avoid the unforced error, and get ready for the general election.

So he concedes to her and takes a shot at her in the same speech? There are 12 primaries/caucuses on 3/1 and Bernie has a chance to win maybe 3-4 of them and that’s after he loses to her in SC,probably by double digits.

You forgot Texas and Virginia. Both of those are on 3/1.

The only other candidates that ran were Webb and O’Malley and he waited too long to announce. Others wanted Warren and Biden to run but they declined.
