Discussion: Sanders Apologizes, Says He Wasn't Aware Of Sexism Within His Campaign

I’m just shocked, SHOCKED that gambling was going in my campaign. I never saw it. I never heard the strident misogynistic roar from my supporters either!

Queue the usual suspects of detractors who have delivered Democratic Party ineffectiveness for decades, enabling Republicans for years, but suddenly now embrace ideas Sanders has been advocating for all his political career.

I don’t know what Art is, but I know TPM ‘New Democrat’ bullshit when I see it.

Sometimes when you’re spending all your time scolding others for their moral failings, you just don’t get around to achieving equitable conditions in the one realm you actually have control over, is that it? Sounds legit.

Beg pardon but I always thought people who worked full time should be able to live on their pay, and I always thought a society as rich as ours should have universal health care since all the comparable ones did and poorer ones besides. I tried not to be a vainglorious moralizing dick about it, and I tried not to sabotage the campaign of other actual Democrats. But if I’m the problem then again I beg your pardon. Sorry.

Then how can you run the executive branch?

Weird situation for an old white guy to be in…

“I’m not aware of what’s going on in my organization” is an interesting message for somebody who appears to be running for office so he can run a really large organization.

I used to think Bernie Sanders wasn’t a reasonable candidate simply because he was too idealistic/principled to be an effective politician. Sometimes, the world seems to have boundless capacity to disappoint me.

Millions of people got health care because of Obama. A bunch are losing it cause the purity brigade sat on their hands.

By my count, roughly half the democrats in the house are pretty progressive. That is not a majority of the house, so you have a choice: ally yourself with those in your party who are less progressive, or who represent less progressive districts; or sit on your hands and let the GOP run wild.

I know what many with similar views tow you have said over the years: they called me an idiot and a collaborator and denigrate my point of view as ‘lesser evilism’, without ever addressing whether lesser evilism is always such a bad thing.

The article doesn’t mention it, but Sanders spent the first 2 minutes of his “apology” talking about how awesome his campaign was and how many states won and how they started with a hot-dog stand and ended up buying GM.

Hillary has it in the bag!!!

Congratulations on your textbook whataboutism. Hillary Clinton is almost certainly not running for office in 2020 and whatever errors she made in campaign operation/administration are of purely historical interest.

we put forward the strongest set of principles in terms of mandatory training, in terms of women, if they felt harassed, having an independent firm that they can go to. And I think that’s kind of the gold standard for what we should be doing.”

That was one of those no apology apologies, Saying I am sorry if your feelings are hurt doesn’t take ANY responsibility for what his campaign did nor does it acknowledge that sexual harassment happened. It just says you “feel” like it happened. What a bunch of Bernie hogwash. If he is too busy to know what is happening in his campaign perhaps he is too busy to run for President. Go away.

He also knew nothing about the misogyny directed towards Hillary Clinton.

He was disciplined. That does not mean she approved of his behavior, or is your need to blame your hangnail and everything else wrong in your life on Hillary Clinton your overriding issue?

soooooo

how much of a ‘mom and pop’ operation was the 2016 Sanders presidential operation?

yes, and he didn’t hear anything like that at the Democratic National Convention, nor did he try hard to stop it. I suspect he knew he was better off having no control of his supporters.

This is pretty much of a non-apology, and the claims were from 2016, so why is he talking about how super special 2018 was?

Also, how does he expect to be able to run the Executive Branch if he couldn’t figure out how to hire decent folks in 2016, because he was so “busy” running around the country?

He reminds me of Trump: constitutionally incapable of accepting responsibility.
