This is going to be completely predictable.
From the candidate—The usual expressions of not knowing about sexism in a campaign, which although probably accurate overlook the basic fact that sexism is prevalent throughout society and there is no reason to assume that any particular campaign/organization is immune from it.
From the people who already didn’t like the candidate—There where also be the usual attacks on this particular campaign/candidate as if this sexism is something unique to their campaign which will be used to call into question the entire campaign—conveniently ignoring the first thing (that sexism is prevalent throughout the society).
Authenticity over ideology. Substance over celebrity. Empathy AND experience. Those are the qualities I believe we want and need in a presidential candidate and that’s why I believe that Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown would be the best candidate to unite a fractious Democratic party while appealing to a polarized nation. I believe that if he chooses to run, and I hope that he will, he would be, hands down, the best and most electable anecdote to Trumpism. I admire Bernie Sanders very much, but I don’t believe he’s the candidate the Democratic Party or the country wants or needs.
Another non-apology apology:
He opened with two paragraphs reciting his campaign argument and attacking the Democratic Party.
What? Excuse me? Your supporters just threatened to kill a woman, called her a c–t, and this is how you open your official statement on that event? He did throw in a sentence about not condoning violence, but it was buried so that the effect of it was to communicate: yeah, yeah, I have to say this. Bitch.
“It is not good enough for somebody to say, ‘I’m a woman, vote for me.’ No That is not good enough,”
- Bernie Sanders
Something which Hillary Clinton never did, BTW.
Squirrel!
What happens to the brain of a politician that makes them think an “I’m sorry if you felt feelings” nonpology is in any way helpful to them, if only from the standpoint of self-interest?
It’s like, “what can I say that gets me all of the downside of a real apology in terms of the press and enemies saying I admitted to wrongdoing and none of the benefits of forgiveness from those wronged?”
I was on the fence on Bernie.
Until now.
And I live in Vermont.
He’s an egotistical, misogynist jackass.
How’s that? How’d I do?
“So I certainly apologize to any woman who felt that she was not treated appropriately,” he continued. “And of course, if I run, we will do better next time.”
Bernie gave us the traditional politician’s apology: “I’m sorry you were offended because I deliberately ran over your dog.”
I’d be a lot more impressed with his apology if he said “I’m sorry that several women on my campaign were not treated appropriately. I will be working with them to identify - and correct - the problems that took place during my Presidential campaign. This includes financial compensation for any woman who was underpaid compared to their male counterparts - and from now on I will embrace a zero-tolerance policy on my campaigns and in my Senate offices for any harassment or discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or race.”
I don’t know if he gave a politician’s apology because he’s afraid a real apology might give the women harassed and discriminated against on his campaign better grounds to sue, or if he really doesn’t see this as a big deal - but in either case, his handling of this situation was not what I’d call Presidential.
Especially since “the buck stops here” - how could he not be aware of what was going on during his campaign - and why were the women working for him not able to communicate with him directly about these problems so he could nip them in the bud?
Every time Bernie opens him piehole, I am more convinced than ever that he is not fit to be president.
Bless your heart.
Um, Clinton isn’t running for president. I know it’s hard for you to accept, but your boy Donnie Dipshit “won.”
When I heard that, I thought: That’s how Trump answers a question.
Sanders and his straw woman.
So he never wondered why his most rabid supporters were known as “Bernie Bros”? Did he think it was just a nice alliteration?
Nor did he have any knowledge of the brigades of Bernie Bros harassing women in his name. It was all just a mystery to him. He was too busy to care about women, too busy to call on his supporters to cut it out. Fuck you, Bernie.
You did great!
Why is it always the same story. Valid complaints are dismissed by the leadership. Where is the difference between Sandersc and Mark Cuban?
This is where I have to set your arse straight with that revisionist bs.
These are your people so you have a LOT of audacity to say that crap doesn’t exist within Dear Leader’s supporters. Ya’ll had 2 years; 2 whole YEARS to act better. We KEPT the receipts and we have a LOT more on EVERYTHING. Bernie will be properly vetted this time, unlike 2016 and it will be painful for him and his stans. Now SCRAM!
