It’s easy to forget, in this time of Kellyanne Conway and Donald Trump and Michael Flynn, how fucking loathsome a person Paul Ryan is.
I don’t understand faith because I think people who were at church praying shouldn’t get gunned down, fuck off.
Faith?
If there were a God, Ryan would have been smitted, smotted, smutted or whatever a long time ago.
Prayer works if there is an appropriate response to the answer. It is a two way street. He wants to leave it God’s hand and walk away.
“It is the right thing to do in moments like this because, you know what? Prayer works,” he said.
After Columbine, and Sandy Hook, and Virginia Tech, and Las Vegas, a lot of people prayed there would never again be gun massacres in our country.
How did all that praying work out, Paul?
***".........Prayer works,” he said.***
“It is the right thing to do in moments like this because, you know what? Prayer works,”
So, those people were praying that they’d be massacred Sunday morning? Wait, they were praying they’d go to heaven some day and their prayers were answered by nut job with an arsenal right then and there. That must be it.
God’s reply:
I understand faith to the extent that if I have a hernia, I will seek out a surgeon and if I am required to travel quickly to New York from Tucson, I will seek an airline. And if I want gun killings to stop, I will try to regulate the distribution of weapons. Faith steps in when logic and cause and effect relationships fail us.
Such is is not the case here. On the other hand, Paulie’s tax plans and “magic asterisks”…
So is Ryan suggesting that the problem is that people simply aren’t praying hard enough?
The continued success of Tom Brady is proof praying is ineffectual, and also there is no God.
Ironic since it was a church, no?
God you are a stupid SOB Ryan.
“Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.” Matthew 7:5 (KJB)

I pray for effective gun laws to be introduced and enacted that will protect the living from preventable massacres enabled by lax gun laws in this country.
I have no faith that Republicons will hear the word of God and protect the living.
Unfortunately, we have come to understand “faith” all too well.
It is the excuse that is used to do nothing about gun violence other than to arm the deranged, who shouldn’t have guns, and do the bidding of the gun manufacturers.
There is a law on the books to prevent him from buying a gun. Had his domestic abuse finding been entered into the database the store from which he bought the gun couldn’t have sold it to him. However, anyone at a gun show could have (no background check), as could any friend or neighbor or random person from craigslist. Don’t let this “administer the laws already in place” argument stand. The laws already in place --fully followed-- offered him ample other opportunities to purchase a gun.
So the secular left is responsible for disunity? How hard did Ryan pray to repeal Obamacare, to stop Obama from ever taking office, from Trump taking office?
Seems like lyin’ Ryan needs to pray harder.
Even as mealy-mouthed and viciously hypocritical pandering, it doesn’t work. The Old and New Testaments are rife with examples of choices and actions the faithful are called upon to make. The passivity he’s suggesting isn’t part of the tradition IMHO.
“It is the right thing to do in moments like this because, you know what? Prayer works,”
I cannot tell you how angry this makes me. I mean, like totally seeing red right now. Prayer “works” within a narrow range of constructs: it can provide comfort, solace or delusion. It cannot “work” to prevent you from being mortally wounded and once you are dead, there’s no guarantee as to where you go/what you do once you are dead. This line of propaganda works on those who are very susceptible to fairy tales and superstition.
When you believe in things you don’t understand, then you suffer. Superstition is not the way.
