If soldiers were just praying and not fighting we would have been a conquered country long ago. People have been praying for thousands of years without an answer. I’d say time for a new god and a new religion.

Does it? Then there must be at least as many people praying for gun massacres as are praying against them. Though I admit that the above point assumes praying works like a popularity contest. Maybe, instead, god just takes the prayer that causes the most carnage, even if only a few people pray it. Because that’s just how he rolls - maybe he likes carnage. That wouldn’t be out of line with what we know of him based on the book he wrote.

If prayer worked then the 26 people shot and 20 people wounded in a CHURCH praying wouldn’t have been shot. But even if you believe in the power of prayer, it’s ridiculous to suggest that prayer and prayer alone can solve a problem that necessarily requires action. It’s one thing to pray over a sick loved one in the hospital receiving care. It’s yet another to refuse medical care for your loved one and then pray over it. You can pray all day that you’ll be able to beat an addiction, but if you don’t stop using and/or join a program of some sort, you’re not going to get better.

I usually do not like to knock faith but I hate it being used as a weapon. Prayers must not be working because this keeps happening. I am not sure if they are asking for suffering to be eased or whatever, but whatever proactive take conservatives are making are failing.

Unless god likes what ryan is about - plenty of reason to believe he would.
Is there anyone out here–even those of us who are not people of faith–who thinks that those who believe in the efficacy of prayer should not have said some for the victims? Or do not ALL of us object that prayer is not enough? As the Bible says, “God helps those who help themselves.”
