Look…Nunes clearly came to him and said, “I need to get hold of intelligence documents so I can craft this memo and the FBI and Justice won’t give them to me. Tell Rosenstein and Wray to give them to me.”
Ryan did so and in so doing bought into Nunes strategy. Nunes HAD to have his plan already crafted and any rational individual in this circumstance would have told him to go pound sand. Nunes has repeatedly been crafting these idiotic tales and repeatedly having them knocked down in the face of facts. AND he has been continually misusing his powers as Chair to send staff to London to try and force Steele to testify (and failing), starting an investigation of the FBI, and rewriting his own memo after it is OKd by his party faithful, and continuing to meddle in everything even though he supposedly recused himself from matters related to Russian involvement in the 2016 campaign.
And yet…Ryan went along with him. Wray and Rosenstein asked Trump to get Nunes to back off and explained why. Trump obviously has a strong motive to get this memo into play because he thinks it will somehow help him, demonstrating once again that he hasn’t got a clue.
Nunes is the James o’Keefe of Congressmen…a doofus tool who keeps getting caught trying to carry Trump’s water and getting other members of the party to buy into his schemes, this tarring them with the failures that result.

Sure it is, we see this done all the time, all the committees write memos like this about agencies and send them to the President that is how our constitution works now, the congress works for the President stop this whining in the press or the President will have your license pulled and your property seized.
Good old fashioned oversight… that the FBI and DOJ say harms national security… how is this not at least in the league with the phony “unmasking”
If this is oversight of FISA process abuses then it would review many many cases to see if there are patterns of abuse. If there were findings that abuse of the process was widespread then it would rightly impugn the reputation of the FBI just as findings that there were major problems in the FBI’s crime lab did. The crime lab f’d up and a lot pf people paid a price.
Oversight is not debating the merits of one single case. This is litigating the case, this is making a propaganda point. this is about misinformation, and ultimately obstruction of justice.
It is quite shocking to see the Speaker of the House so debase the position of Speaker this way. This kind of hackery and transparent dissembling is why you roll out back benchers.
