Discussion: Ryan-Aligned Super PAC Hits Ossoff For Raising Money Outside Georgia In Ad (VIDEO)

More importantly, we just saw a republican Representative from Iowa storm out of a interview in front of children because he was asked about money coming in from out of state for his campaigns. And it went viral.

REALLY bad optics.

Two quick notes:
First, Tip O’Neill may have been right then, but now, the correct phrase is “All local politics is national.”
Jeez, you should see how much money from out-of-Los Angeles is being poured into the most expensive school board race in history, the Charter Corporations vs LAUSD Board Pres. Steve Zimmer.
So call me when you’re willing to restrict a corporation’s donations to the state it’s incorporated in (Delaware or South Dakota, usually), otherwise, STFU.

Second, is this pair of graphics another dig at the West Coast and SanFrancisco values? The honey-colored young girl, with center-parted pig-tails, transitions to the honey-colored guy in the video, with center-parted pig-tails and bad facial hair?
There are so many subliminals in this (Golden Gate, Fairey graphics, and for their supporters who can read, ‘Pelosi’, and ‘San Francisco’), on or behind the speakers. Does the left have the stones to be this condescending to its supporters? The right sure is. “Stay on message. Stay on message.”

Georgia’s 6th is a relatively affluent and well educated district–not exactly Dukes of Hazard country. I wonder if there might be somewhat of a backlash against this ham-fisted attempt to pander to their alleged parochialism?

What do you want to bet that the very people that are being pandered to have either been tourists in San Francisco or who’d welcome the opportunity to be one especially in the middle of the summer when It’s hot as hell in most of the country and comfortably cool here year round, not to the mention the crab, the sourdough, the vistas, the live and let live vibe, etc. But frankly I don’t want our party to go low just because the Rs choose to condescend to their supporters.

Spkr Pelosi can be counted on to bring her gun to any knife fight the Rs may want to pick. I thought the Dems showed rare good sense in keeping her in her leadership position. She’s battle tested - like Sgt Fury.

Yates was pounding nails into the large shiny foreheads of several Republican Senators yesterday… go back and look how she also gave out free vasectomies to Cornyn and Cruz as well. File those under “not suffering fools lightly”.

Where is the CDC located? Atlanta, Georgia.

Who works at the CDC? Educated, driven professionals with a deep commitment to science, education, and public health.

What are the demographics of GA-6? It’s relatively affluent with a higher-than-normal percentage of well-educated Atlantans.

What are the chances that some residents of GA-6 work at the CDC, or for allied businesses or consulting firms? Probably pretty good.

What did Trump propose to do to the CDC? Take away $500 million from its budget and turn it into “block grants” for the states.

What did Trump propose to do to the NIH? Take away $6 billion.

What are the practical connections between the CDC and NIH? Given that the CDC has primary responsibility to deal with disease outbreaks and other public health issues, and given that the NIH is one of the primary agencies for basic scientific research into medical issues, it’s extremely likely that the relationship between the two agencies is extensive.

What does Jon Ossoff say on his website about Trump’s budget cuts to the CDC or NIH?

Not a single damn thing from what I can see.

SMH.

Pelosi was going to retire when Clinton won, but she will stay and fight the good fight until sanity is restored in the House (and she’ll continued to be reelected until she does decide to retire). She’ll also continue to bring her awesome fund raising powers to Democratic candidates. Yes, her rebuttals to the Cs of Texas were very impressive, or as I think of them, two senators sharing one brain

Well, I posit they know their base very well. The district may not be what they think and may be changing demographically, but the GOP triggers their base far, far better than democrats. We kid ourselves that they don’t. And as khaaannn stated upthread, and I agree with the point made by khaaannn, they know exactly what stereotypes and triggers to hit in order to spin up their base. You, me and almost everyone in the TPM comments section are not the target and the audience for this ad (and certainly not the GOPs base in Georgia generally and the GA-06).

Even Democrat and Democratic leaning voters in that district are not the audience for this ad. This is about firing up their pre-programmed base that have internalized and trained for decades now by Fox et al, to go R/red tribal when buzzwords like Pelosi, California, out-of-state, liberals, San Francisco, keywords are tapped.

If the Super Pac had any class at all it would’ve included at least a brief “roll-through” by the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. LOL

Sigh.

I agree, except this time Ossoff has a dog whistle too:
“Karen Handel and Donald Trump want to take away your health care.”

It’s one of the few things that will make a southerner vote for a democrat if they can be made to believe it. We’ll see if he can make stick.

Quite literally, Louisiana is the colon of the Midwest and several states to the east. The Mississippi river carries all the sludge and chemical waste from much of the country and drains it into the gulf.

That’s why there’s a huge dead-zone in the gulf at the mouth of the river and it’s also why Louisiana has the highest rate of cancer in the nation.

Now Karen Handel is refusing to debate Ossoff .

An invitation from the Dunwoody Homeowners Association was turned down after Handel found out the public would be invited, rather than just the members of the DHA.

She’s petrified, and rightly so.

This needs a lot of publicity.

How ironic that this super PAC faults Ossoff for doing nothing more than what the super PAC itself does, i.e., solicit donations from anyone to influence voters anywhere. Of course, Ossoff is required to do it more transparently, to boot.

Moreover, Ossoff is required to do it out in the open, whereas the super PAC can keep its donor list hidden.

I agree with your post overall, but this last line assumes facts not in evidence. Republicans lie with impunity and it never seems to cost them a vote.

Except I lived in that district for 30 years. So I would have been precisely the target, and know hundreds (if not thousands) of people who still are the targets…including many.many republicans in that district.

Still, the blow up yesterday of the guy in Iowa serves to undermine the ad…as does the fact that Ryan from WI is paying to put it up. Not that the average voter will know that, but most people in the district are quite aware that millions are pouring in from out of state on both sides.

Yeah, but the very definition of a SuperPAC (everyone knows by now) is that its financed by out of state donors. He needs to say so and repeat that constantly so these GOP liars can’t smear him, with their own hypocrisy remaining intact in the process. He can claim the high ground if indeed he does offer transparency beyond what his opponent is willing to do. If that doesn’t do it, not much else will…and those people have already made up their minds. But beyond Rs trying to muddy the waters with who funds who, he needs to let his district know what he’s willing to fight for and what he’ll try to do to make their lives better. That’s where the real rubber meets the road.

Education is not a reliable indicator of political affiliation in the suburbs.

Income coupled with LOCATION on the other hand is. If the person is Urban, they are probably a Democrat.
Anywhere in the suburbs that is Upper-Middle-Class-College-Educated is fertile soil for Trumpism.
These are people who are leveraged to the hilt and in debt to their eyeballs and one lay-off away from bankruptcy and are terrified of “the Other” taking away their jobs or moving their office out of the country like a lot of THEIR friends have see happen to them.
I know many of them and to a MAN they all voted for Trump here in Minnesota in a Upper-Middle-Class-White-College-Educated northern suburb of St. Paul (a surprising number of the Women voted for him too.)
FEAR is a powerful incentive and Trumpism plays it hard.

We’ve reached perfect GOP hypocrisy when an ad sponsored by our of state money criticizes someone for taking out of state money.

That is just the latest. She has turned down several invitations to debate Ossoff. Which her campaign staff is probably correct in doing…Handel is not a good debater; she doesn’t think fast on her feet and every answer comes across as a prepared statement (because they usually are). I don’t know how Ossoff is in a debate, but a decent campaign team would have plenty of tape to work with on her, to prepare him properly.
