Discussion: Ryan-Aligned Super PAC Hits Ossoff For Raising Money Outside Georgia In Ad (VIDEO)

Nor was there any reference to the annual Folsom Street Fair, attended by free spirits of all genders who happily shed all their clothing for a romp in the warm California sun and carry on playfully all day.

Ummm…
That GOP money is not coming from Wisconsin - or if any of it is it’s purely by coincidence.

Just a hunch, but I’m betting whoever funds the speaker’s PAC is probably on a first name basis with the Koch brothers and spends more of their time in the Hamptons and in Boca than they do in Racine, much less Janesville.

Pendulums swing both ways. Just because politicians have accomplished something in the past doesn’t mean it will stay that way forever. Even winds change their directions depending on atmospherics, the weather and conditions on the ground. Sometimes it starts small but has a rolling affect that gains in intensity. Sometimes it starts out in a strong wave that doesn’t let up until its exhausted itself. I’ll take either one. But when it starts, somewhere where you least expect it in politics, you know it has the potential and the ability to gain momentum. That’s what an Ossoff’s candidacy presents that district, and that’s why Republican’s are freaking out…because its not supposed to be that way in ruby red Georgia. The Pukes are pulling out all the stops and for a district in the past they never had to worry about. I love it.

I have friends who moved to Coralville from San Francisco, their cost of living dropped and affordability of real estate soared, and they’ve found it a blue refuge from the rest of the stuff in the state.

@pacific_gyre This is the fiendish beauty of the Kochs. No one can easily find the source of the money which works its way into down ballot races. All the buffers, like the Corleones had.

Are you really from Iowa City? 1). Living in central Iowa I have never heard Iowa City referenced as you claim. 2) you missed the entire point of why Blum’s “walk out” was important and the reason for the reporters question. Blum is requiring ID from anyone attending his town hall meetings. The reporter asked why. Blum responded he does not represent other parts of Iowa (I think he specifically referenced Iowa City). So the reporter logically asked well if that is the case will you accept campaign money from Iowa City? Blum walked out. We need national reporters that have this guy’s ability to go to the heart of the issue.

I think you’re both right. Liberal, progressive leaning Iowans should unite, not fight. The children are watching.

No I do not believe we are both right… the problem is, and many of us fall into this trap, we do not pay close attention to a particular issue or statement and respond way off the mark. The reporter was not saying Iowa City people cannot contribute money. He was challenging Blum’s commitment and sincerity. Blum said he did not represent all of Iowa so only people from his district should attend his town halls. The reporter than followed that logic to well how about donations. I think this is a significant difference. I also think it weakens our case when we are not factual in our concerns.

Precisely. I don’t know the specifics of Speaker Ryan’s PAC, but I’m comfortable in making the assertion that it would be very difficult to determine who is actually behind funding it… the money going into it is not coming from big red DONATE button on some web page. 99.98% of Wisconsinites, even the conservative ones, don’t give a fig about about the GA-6 race, and I seriously doubt the other 0.02% have donated their money to defeat Ossoff.

Let’s not get into the irony of the conservative complaints about how dems are trying to nationalize this campaign… they will spend out of state (and dark) money with just as much gusto. I’m sure Ossoff is benefiting from some dark money as well - no one is pure, and if he is I hope he uses it to show that Handel is stapled to DJT’s right testicle.

Yes, but it works in Georgia for the GOP base.

This was an entirely predictable attack by the GOP. I hope Ossoff has a strong and quick response other than “for shame.”

They’ll have to make room for Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Arkansas and South Carolina…at the least

Yes, I saw the full interview (such as it is) and linked to Josh’s writeup, the implication of the questions seemed obvious. My district (which includes Iowa City) has a Democratic Congressman so there is no point in debating someone who agrees with you, he voted against the Trumpcare bill. I don’t think Loebsack (D) has even bothered to do town halls since he is already representing our concerns adequately in Congress. But I myself considered attending one of Blum’s town halls. I’d definitely go to one of Ernst or Grassley’s town halls, if they ever did one within 200 miles of me.

And yeah if you’ve never heard of the “Socialist Republic of Iowa City,” it’s probably because you never lived here and were not subjected to the constant political abuse. I mean seriously, we used to have a Socialist Party City Counsellor Karen Cubby, her nickname was Karen Commie.

Hmmm… so then Georgia is the taint between the bunghole of SC and the balls of the other listed states…

That’s precisely the problem with this ad. It plays to a stereotype that doesn’t even come close to resembling that District. It is largely college educated suburbia, and drinks more than its share of Napa Valley wines.

@lestatdelc Then they really don’t know their base very well, at least in the Atlanta suburbs.

You can see how this was developed in the Marketing Department:

“Ok people, what are conservatives afraid of? Speed round!”
“Black people, sir?”
“Yes! Good!”
“Gay people?”
“Great!”
“Hippies that time travel from the 60s?”
“Right again! Now, lets finish this ad!”

Everything they do and say is based on fear.
That’s why Trump is so scary to everyone.
If there’s not enough fear out there for the win
he might just have to start his own Reichstag fire.

Wow. That ad could have been sooo much better and more effective at what it was trying to do … Why do Republicans suck so bad at humor and satire?

Ironic, isn’t it?

Yeah. But those anti-Pelosi dog whistles still will help with a bunch of voters out there.

The Rs know very well that Pelosi, who is my representative, has the ability to raise a stupendous amount of money, always has, she is very well connected all through the City, so there’s some fear there. But the whole Ossoff puppeteer thing is just stupid. We saw a first term senator from LA named Kennedy going after Yates in a vicious way yesterday. It could just as easily be said that he’s carrying water for Turtle but without ridiculous ads.
