Discussion for article #225595
Her own website lists her as a “Palestinian journalist.” Schizo, this dude-ette has been.
Nope. She gets to say it. They don’t get to suddenly use it as a primary identifier once she’s no longer working for them. (Think of all the other subgroup IDs that also work that way.)
CNN seems like a funny choice to complain about a pro-Israeli media bias.
When your only other alternative is Fox . . .
Well, I remember how everyone used to refer to Helen Thomas as a “Lebanese Journalist”. Oh, wait …
Waiting on MSNBC to refer to Marc Gingberg as a “Jewish” foreign policy expert.
You clearly remember what finally ended her careen.
I predict you’re going to be waiting a long, long time.
Vividly.
I’ll take that a little further even.
I think Ms. Jebreal needs to scrub the internet first, before she whines about this. I just Googled her name and the internet is chock FULL of references to her as an Italian-Palestinian journalist. Even her Wikipedia page refers to her as such.
A bit one-sided, isn’t she?
I heard her criticizing MSNBC on Chris Hayes’ show saying “not one Palestinian had been interviewed by the network” while several Israeli officials had been.
Of course, the day before, Hayes had interviewed the boy who was beaten up (of course he is an American citizen, but identifies as Palestinian, and was the cousin of the boy tortured and killed there.)
Not only that, Hayes has specifically invited Hamas spokespersons to come on his show and all have declined.
That’s comparing apples with peaches, whateverdude. “Palestinian” denotes nationality and/or place of origin. Jewish relates to ethnicity and/or religion. To compare apples to apples, you’d have to ask whether an Israeli journalist working in the US would be ID’d as an “Israeli journalist,” and the answer is, of course: Yes, that’s how they’re identified all the time.
Jebreal actually could be labeled an “Israeli journalist,” because she’s an Israeli citizen with voting and civil rights in that country (not from the occupied territories). But she self-identifies as a Palestinian, and does so on the tagline for her own website. So she’s indeed complaining that she’s being identified the way she’s chosen to identify herself.
Pretty unfair to MSNBC; funny to see CNN trying to take advantage of the situation.
Jabreal is an overwrought, black-and-white-thinker. Why MSNBC hired her in the first place is a mystery to me.
A bit confusing. So using what she herself uses upfront (“Palestinian Journalist Author and Screenwriter”) is labeled on her own website is a problem? If I wanted to find out what to call someone, going to their own website would seem to be a good way to go about it. This is silly. It also is not like “MSNBC” should be any way singled out here. It also is taking focus off her message. This doesn’t seem ideal.
Just looked at my watch. Her 15 minutes is up.
So her heritage is Palestinian, Contract with MNSBC comes to an end meaning she didn’t get what she wanted and then decides to throw verbal bombs at MSNBC.
I am getting the feeling I have see this before. OH wait, lob bombs and then play victim when you get your butt kicked for doing it first. I got it now. lol
Wah-wah-wah-wah-way!!! Give it a rest, will ya?
When you bite the hand that feeds ya, what’s your realistic expectation?
Yeah, they already got lots of OTT black-and-white contract pundits as it is, especially on that morning puppet show, Punch and Mika.
I respectfully argue that she has a valid perspective, and yet she has come off as very shrill. Chis Hayes gave her a great opportunity to present her case.
