Discussion: Rubio Defends Immigration Policy That Would Have Shut Out His Parents

Discussion for article #247176

Why don’t you self deport, Marco? After all, by your admission, you parents shouldn’t be here. Or is this just a simple case of, “I got mine, fuck everyone else?”

Yeah, it’s probably the second one.

"Yeah, well, you wouldn’t shut them out, but it’s a different process, no doubt. My parents came in 1956. The world is a different place from 1956," Rubio said in response. “When my parents arrived in the U.S. in 1956, my dad had a fourth-grade education, maybe. My mom had about the same. If they came today under those circumstances, they would really struggle to succeed.”

Marco sounds a bit like an elitist: “Oh, my parents? Well, they’re special because … well … it was 1956 and all, ya know?”

Rubio: I believe that kids should be without parents as Jesus intended. They grow up quickly. If I had the same opportunity, I would be a responsible adult.

Shorter Marco Rubio: I got mine, so screw the rest of you.

The best thing about Rubio running for president is that he will soon no longer be in the Senate.

I doubt he agrees with his words. But he must say them to appeal to folks he must appeal to in order to get elected.

What does that say about him. He wants power and will do anything to get it. He’ll morph into whatever it takes to get into that Oval Office. That’s dangerous man, no “moderate” and a complete misfit for POTUS in today’s world.

Sure the new Marcobot Whobio sounds more intelligent than his dick and urination jokes.

But why waste bandwidth on this douchebag. He is a loser and an also ran. Another Kochsucker.

During the town hall moderated by MSNBC’s Chuck Todd

How can you have a “town hall” and have the MSM moderating?

[/quote]He’s not in the Senate much now, which might be a factor in why he can’t get support.

interesting… so… if you make that argument then you should have to apply it to the Constitution as well…

Oliver Wendell Holmes made that same argument about interpreting the Constitution as a living document…

In a larger sense, 'lil Marco captured the difference between parties very well.

Simply put, Dems believe that once you climb the ladder you lower it again for the next person; Repubs believe that once you climb the ladder, you lock it up so no one else has access…

Good point. I should have written, The best thing about Rubio running for president is that he abdicated his duties in the Senate, and he will soon be out permanently.

Have to agree with rump–he is little.

Damn his parents, his immigration proposal would have kept the Cuban exile community, the Marelitos (Mariel Boat Lift), HIS people and HIS home base out of the country. There would be no powerhouse Cuban political community to speak of. Wow just wow.

I really tried to listen to Rubio, but his inability to answer questions with anything other than spin, obfuscation, and boilerplate was insulting to the thoughtful questioners, some of whom seemed puzzled by his replies. Typical was “If Big Money is so awful, look at Bernie Sanders. He has no Super Pacs, and is running a “people powered” small donation campaign”, why don’t you rely on lots of small donations?" Rubio replied, “Well if you love SOCIALISM there are MANY other countries you can MOVE to!”

Wow.

What a dingbat. How did Rubio’s parents get in at all? The immigration limitations we have now were not in place in 1956. The fact that Rubio’s parents were nevertheless able to get jobs and earn enough to provide for their families is exactly what we’re talking about here. Did Rubio’s parents take jobs away from Americans who wanted to wash dishes?

What is the basis for distinguishing the circumstances in which Rubio’s parents were able to join American society and what he wants to deny to present day immigrants? It’s really disturbing that neither he nor Cruz can comprehend this.

Chuck Todd is the worst, and he got under my skin by being so awful at his job. When Rubio complained that candidates must buy airtime on television, and how expensive it is after whining about Socialism, Chuck Todd MIGHT have added, “Yes Sen. Rubio, tv can be expensive, but all campaigns even yours gets a preferred LOW RATE that a REAL business, a capitalist business would not get, so actually a little touch of big government Socialism is keeping you in the race. You should be grateful for the forced discount pricing!”

Instead he sat there like an imbecile, doing nothing to inform the public.

Ya really gotta love a guy who shits in his own mess kit!!! Or not…

Oh yeah, “the world is a different place.” Except we still have that discriminatory special treatment of Cubans coming here called “wet foot, dry foot.” Mexicans just simply get called “wetbacks,” are not afforded any special consideration, but lumped together with Venezuelans, El Salvadorans and others as “rapists” and such.

Pendejo.
