Discussion: Rosenstein: 'Public Will Have Confidence' In Mueller Probe 'At The End Of The Day'

Seems like a lot of words that don’t really say much, which is probably the best we can reasonably hope for. Gotta toss Trump his little morsels of red meat, but this doesn’t sound to me like a guy who’s itching to terminate any investigations.

“President has been supportive of that”.

Is this guy brain damaged, or is he taunting the dotard?

Get ready to be disappointed.

Special counsel Robert Mueller is “ready to deliver the key findings” of his investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, according to Bloomberg News. Two unnamed U.S. officials said Mueller will divulge what he’s found shortly after the November midterm elections as he faces growing pressure to produce more indictments or shut down his investigation. The announcements will reportedly focus on the two key planks of the investigation: whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russia, and whether Trump himself took any actions that constitute obstruction of justice. However, Mueller’s findings won’t necessarily be made public if he doesn’t secure unsealed indictments. He can present his findings only to his boss, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

This public will only have confidence if Mueller finds fault with Trump and his campaign.
By saying it, he makes it trickier for Trump to do an end run around him or for Trump to run him over.
A little schmoozing, a little ego massage, a little moving of the goalposts and another day for the investigation to live on.
I think of it like Muhammad Ali’s clinch- as long as there’s no daylight between the fighters, there’s no way for the other guy to get the leverage to throw a good punch.

I see it as one of two things happens:

 1. Mueller takes down a couple people who don’t matter

 2. Mueller shows air-tight evidence against Trump and family, and the outcome is Trump and family saying, “Yeah, and? What are you going to do about it?” Followed by nobody doing anything.

Apparently I’m not an optimist today.

I honestly think Robert Mueller is like Tommy Lee Jones’ character from “The Fugitive”: He just wants to figure out what the truth is and will let the chips fall where they may. Mueller will have federal buildings and airports named after him someday.

It looks like this will be emphasis in Mueller’s report, PP colluding with Russians and PP’s obstruction of justice, and if this House won’t act on it, the presumably, hopefully, please god, Democratic led House beginning January will.

@meri And now for something completely different, think positive.

It’s been a shitty day.

It’s been a shitty nearly two years, and if we surrender to the noise trumpp makes or we think he’ll make, we’re goners.

I try. But even with a Dem led house, I don’t see them having the guts to go after a sitting President, even one as openly corrupt as the current resident.

There were no buildings or airports named after Richard Kimball even though he was the hero by the end of the film and Sam Gerard thought the world of him. Same thing with Mueller. He’s doing his job, probably not looking for or actually wanting much applause.

They already have guts, but no power.

Give them power and just watch.
Totally, but the thing with Trump and the murderers of Khashoggi make today feel especially dark.

I remember how 2006 and 2008 were so important, because then the Democrats would have subpoena power. I’ll believe it when I start seeing some indictments that lead to convictions that lead to real prison time.

In the current environment, they’d better do nothing less.

ETA, to anyone holding stuff against dems before?

Thanks for a 5-4 Supreme Court and a slowly packed judiciary.

You short-sighted assholes.
