Discussion: Rosenstein: I Wouldn't Obey Trump Order To Fire Mueller Without 'Good Cause'

Mueller is dead meat…

The ball is back in Trump’s court.

That’s OK, there’s a Robert Bork wannabe lurking somewhere in the Justice Department.

What about Gingrich? Doesn’t anyone care what Newt says?

Yeah like Rosenstein has already proved to have a stiff spine. He will roll over and join the cabinet for the next Trump Blowfest.

You mean our next attorney general Gingrich? That one?

Posted this in another thread and I think it needs repeating here. There is entirely too much hand-wringing over this and much of it isn’t rooted in anything resembling fact, reality, or sanity for that matter:

I was just watching Pete Williams and Ari Melber explain the process of getting rid of Mueller. The president could theoretically fire Mueller but it’s a long process. The DOJ would have to change the regulations laid out for such a situation. Currently, those regulations only allow that Mueller be fired for either good cause, misconduct, dereliction of duty, incapacity, or conflict of interest. In order to change those rules, it would take a very long time and an act of Congress.

Sure, the president could just demand that Rosenstein fire Mueller or resign, but that would be the very end of Rosenstein’s career if he complied, and it just doesn’t even begin to make sense that the guy who impaneled a Special Counsel behind the president’s back would then suddenly agree to fire Mueller. The president could then keep promoting and firing new Deputy AGs until he found one willing to kill the investigation, but I think that’s even a little silly. Everyone compares this to Watergate, and they’re right to do so, but Watergate was a first. It hadn’t been done before and therefore some may not have realized the gravity of what they were doing. Now, one only needs to look to Watergate to see the shitshow one would be entering themselves into by complying with the president.

Special Counsel Mueller may be fired only for good cause and I am required to put that cause in writing.

“Good cause” being defined as whatever DT hopes Rosenstein can see his way clear to do. As for putting that cause in writing, I offer Rosenstein’s written memo re: DT’s power to fire Comey.

This statement may be the best evidence we have yet that we are well past the “Constitutional Crisis” threshold already.

But why would he testify that he sees no reason to fire Mueller, would resist firing Mueller, etc. and why would he go to the lengths of impaneling a Special Counsel, and do it behind the backs of both PP and Sessions, if he was just going to cave and fire him when the president asks? Why testify that he wouldn’t comply if the president asked him to fire Mueller if the plan was to fire Mueller? It just doesn’t make sense.

Like any other Trump lackey, he will say that right up to the point he is asked to fire him, and will then proceed to roll over no matter the cause.

Nothing about Team Trump makes sense except infinite stupidity.

Trump: No worries. First I fire Rosenstein and then Kushner, the new active chief, fires everyone who is investigating me. Problem solved.
