No, they’re disseminating the narrative that “good cause” is that Mueller is friends with Comey and has been close with him since 2003, so he has a conflict of interest that requires recusal. Faux News’ website already has two pieces up pushing that asinine rationalization.
Which makes it 100% consistent with everything that chacterizes the DT maladministration and its cadre of GOP enablers in the House and Senate. (I’m also missing the snark tags. They wore out in the first 100 days.)
Is Rosenstein trying to emerge from Wraithdom?
But this guy is no more Team PP than any other career DOJ employee. He’s literally been at the DOJ since college.
Yes, and I think he is stating the obvious with the “won’t fire Mueller” for the one side and “without cause” to keep trump satisfied, off guard and off his back for now.
Trump will pardon everyone before he fires Mueller.
Good cause according to Trump is whatever Trump wants. He seeks out loyal servants who agree with him. There is no way to predict what Trump will do – except he has done every damned thing he ever threatened.
This administration has only an acting Solicitor General. I’ve read he can’t fire anyone.
So what do you think he’s going to do? He can’t fire the man directly, Rosenstein has to do that. If Rosenstein is not going to do that and I really believe he won’t, then Trump has to fire Rosenstein.
Ok.
Obviously there are people here who believe that absolutely nothing can be done.
Again, ok. What is there to talk about then?
Rosenstein’s reply to Harris has been buried in all the outrage of how she was treated by Burr, but in fact Rosenstein made a statement assuring he would not act to fire Mueller. A lot of verbiage but that was his meaning.
WaPo summerizes how Mueller could be fired, in one chart.
I asked this question last night about the succession line after Rosenstein – and the article also answers it. So after Rosenstein it is Brand -> Boente.
Yeah I would totally expect Rosenstein to resign rather than fire Mueller. It’s my understanding that he was madder than hell about taking the blame for firing Comey.
Trump is being boxed in, but there’s a side of the box missing. A clear statement from GOP leadership saying that the firing or attempted firing of Mueller would lead to impeachment. This is not going to happen. The best they can come up with is “rumors”. Trump will continue to be emboldened.
Not according to Pete Williams and Ari Melber and NBC legal department. The president can’t just change the regulations without it going through a very long process that involves Congress, hearings, and a public comment period. Changing the rules would require action that they couldn’t carry out behind closed doors.
It’s a question of who wants to fall on his sword for trump. People who envision a career in government won’t do that.
The GOP is acting like they’re running scared.
“Under the regulation, Special Counsel Mueller may be fired only for good cause and I am required to put that cause in writing…"
Odds are MANGOTUS and his lackeys are not aware that such regulations exist.
Or a career with a legitimate law firm.
Kasowitz, Dewey, Cheatem and Howe will always be hiring.
Why should we believe you? You were involved in inappropriately firing Comey without cause already.
