Discussion: Robin Williams' Wife: He Was In Early Stages Of Parkinson's Disease

I didn’t believe it was only Depression.

Hmm, haven’t gotten that. Whatever shitty code it is, it isn’t Flash, because I’ve got Flashblock running and that doesn’t stop it. If you’re using Firefox, it may be something related to that; ever since the last update it’s been freezing up regularly and (seemingly) randomly, though I think it’s something to do with Gmail that does it to me rather than TPM.

My father also had Parkinson’s, he was depressed and confined to bed toward the end, and it broke my heart to see him deteriorate over such a long period of time.

Here in the SF Bay Area (Robin lived in Tiburon in Marin County) everyone felt they knew him and thought the world of him because among other reasons he was quietly philanthropic every time he had to opportunity to be.

Fox took a figurative beating from Fatbaugh and I can’t see him sticking his neck out on behalf of anyone else because it’s not in Fat’s nature to understand the human condition. It’s to be mocked, that’s what he knows.

My guess is if someone had opened his door the moment before his suicide and stopped him, he would have continued to have some happiness and give happiness to his family, friends and fans, despite the Parkinson’s and depression. Again, I’m just guessing, but I immagine he was overwhelmed by panic and anxiety in the space of a few hours, his thinking severely restricted, and he could not think of the right way to effectuate his love for his family and friends, which he certainly had by all accounts. I look at this like death by an earthquake or an unavoidable accident. He can’t be either blamed or excused.

Yes, have read that and think everyone should read and consider it seriously. Thanks for posting the link for us here.

He also died on the morrow of a full moon.

My father was a late shift supervisor in a very large modern factory. He was told to expect more incidents on full moons. His experienced, he said, largely confirmed that. He had dementia which was ultimately the cause of his death. But he let go of life on the morrow of a full moon.

I know there’s no science to any of that. Anyway, I miss both of them very much. They were both very good, very kind people.

The world needs more of them, not less.

thanks for posting this link.

a fallen bird on a hard floor. indeed.

The thing is, given the energy, the physical comedy, the voices, the facial animation etc, that were a large part of his talent, Parkinson’s would have been a lot tougher on Robin Williams than on most sufferers.
I have a friend with Parkinson’s. He’s a statistician. It hasn’t been exactly a picnic for him either, but it’s not the same kind of loss.

Parkinson’s ain’t temporary, but the treatment options are better than they used to be, and can help stave off the worst of the symptoms for several years at least. Everyone reacts differently to being diagnosed with something like this, and depression is definitely a major risk factor, but it is a real shame for him and his family that he felt his life was no longer worth living.

There’s no time limit on karma. The statute of limitations runs for ever. Eventually his past will catch up with El Rushbo and he will be looking around for support from his “ditto heads” and they’ll be nowhere to be seen. right now Rush is smug in his walled Florida compound with his 4th wife. But I assure you one day … one day it will hit the fan and he will not escape.

If cancer is the devil, what is Parkinson’s? Because it’s the worst thing one can be diagnosed with.

RIP Williams.

I agree with you, and as someone who’s been diagnosed as likely to develop Parkinson’s, I think the “worse than cancer” type comments here are overblown. As far as Robin Williams thinking his life was no longer worth living, I’ve already commented that I guess it was a panic attack which, but for very bad luck, could have been stopped and dealt with.

It seems to happen with the Flash-based Google ads running in the background.

I am not a suicide expert and (fortunately) haven’t had to deal with it in my immediate family. But, I think we should not speculate that someone might have stopped him. Won’t the family members already have enough guilt and self recrimination to deal with? Let’s not hypothesize that they could have prevented this. I would NEVER want someone to lay that on me or anyone else.

I think the “worst thing one can be diagnosed with” is a matter of personal opinion. Myasthenia Gravis is an autoimmune disease in which one develops antibodies against the motor end plate of certain muscles. It can be mamaged with drugs but paralysis is always just around the corner. My Dad had it for 2.5 decades.

I’m happy that you appreciated it as much as I did.

My brother-in-law died recently of Parkinson’s. Just friggin’ awful.
RIP Robin.

Only Depression is already a pretty big thing.
