Discussion: RNC Condemns AP Exam's 'Radically Revisionist View' Of US History

Discussion for article #226359

So is the RNC suggesting that we should have some sort of basic educational standards across the country? Maybe a ‘common core’ of rose-tinted, white-washed knowledge?

How dare you bring facts into our mythology!

The RNC is trying to frame an election around the virtues of manifest destiny… in 2014.

translated : how dare they use facts instead of right wing propaganda

Just wait until the RNC gets a look at the AP biology and science tests.

Oh, this is a doozy.

“The new Framework continues its theme of oppression and conflict by reinterpreting Manifest Destiny from a belief that America had a mission to spread democracy and new technologies across the continent to something that ‘was built on a belief in white racial superiority and a sense of American cultural superiority.’”

Manifest Destiny. The clue is in the title. Manifest = like, totally obvious, dude. Destiny = predetermined = the Big Fella said so. And who was there originally and had to fork over their land? Mexicans and natives.

Yeah, Concerned Women for America – all y’all can get bent.

emphasizes negative aspects of our nation’s history while omitting or minimizing positive aspects

funny, I always thought conservatives ripped on liberals for promoting self esteem.

They won’t be happy until kids are told Ronald Reagan appeared to Christopher Columbus in a vision and told him that lower tax rates can be had in the New World, that Africans were thankful to be taken from the savage dark continent and cared for by understanding, patient plantation owners, and that all the founding fathers were evangelical prophets channeling the one true God’s words into the Constitutional Declaration of Commandments.

The ‘city on a hill’ thing isn’t that old. My parents weren’t raised with it.

There was a rigid heirarchy. Hair length was dictated in the Massachusetts colony, women weren’t able to vote until AFTER the slaves were emancipated, and oh yeah- there were slaves.

Be proud of it. It’s behind us, isn’t it?

I guess a history of genocide, slavery and racism does tend to leave a bad taste.

Doesn’t the RNC have anything better to do?

No. However, they have other mischief to make.

Choose truth over indoctrination every time, even when it is uncomfortable. Everyone pulls up short of perfect, it is how we are made, and America is no different.

These type of right wing red meat articles are the bread and butter of the Daily Caller, home of the bow tie wearing dip shit Tucker Carlson.

No, they don’t. Clearly caterwauling about social issues is far more important than unemployment, the economy, health care, etc.

Rush has already written the textbooks. Add a few David Bartons, a Skousen or two and Ann Coulter’s oeuvre and I’d say history could compete admirably with Creationism for lack of substance and credibility.
