Discussion: Rick Perry: Obama Refusing To Go To Border 'No Different' From Katrina

Discussion for article #224870

Apples and oranges, but then what should we have expected? Governor Oops is just trying to advance the “Obama’s Katrina” meme.

I really do have a hard time accepting that the reality I live in has room for the opposite of the reality I live in.

I don’t think it’s possible for anyone to fail as completely as George Bush and the RNC did, unless they succeeded. Which they did. Every moment of Katrina was deliberate, and nothing about Mexicans has anything in common with a slow-moving hurricane the entire scientific community warned about for a month.

Lying pieces of shit, I wish your days were numbered. Unfortunately, because you believe the end is going to come, there will never be such a thing,

The Katrina comparison must be the official Republican talking point on this issue because Libs just used it on another thread.

I think after six years of this crap, the president knows well enough not to care what the Republicans say or do what they demand he do. I think he also understands that everyone already knows which party wants to treat immigrants decently and which doesn’t. People with a stake in this, or who are paying attention, won’t be swayed by a news cycle’s worth of talking points.

The problem is not with the President. The problem is with congress who blocked all the President proposal…

Congress have a few choices instead of running to a camera (Rick Perry, NBC Today Show)…

  1. Cong. can amend William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act 2008

  2. Pass the Supplemental Bill that in front of cong. right now

  3. Pass their own legislation

  4. Bonehead can bring S.744 senate’s comprehensive immigration bill

This is the time for congress to either put up or shut-up…

False equivalence and an obvious attempt at scandal mongering. I guess since Benghazi fizzled out and was thrown back in their faces they’ll need something to keep the base angry.

So the Republicans are finally ready to admit what a monumental fuck-up Bush’s response to Katrina was, but only in order to make a false equivalence with a Democratic president? As I remember, the Republican mantra after Katrina was, “We don’t want to play the ‘blame game’”.

Watching NBC and CBS play up the dimwitted Governor this morning…Neither network mentioned Congressional inaction and both quoted Perry extensively. But, it was lengthier footage of Perry at the Obama sit-down played in the pre-network local news that showed the cartoon aspect clearly. The nets showed a brief clip of the scene where Perry appeared to be at the head of the table. But, the President and locals, including Perry, were seated along the long sides of the rectangular table…As the cameras entered, a camera-aware Perry slid toward a woman on the opposite side to seemingly chat and briefly occupied the narrow end between the two flags…NBC and CBS both only showed the table scene with Perry seemingly at its head. This is Barney Fife stuff and someone should call Perry and the nets out.

This is quite close to my thoughts as well. No one in the GOP ever admitted what a disaster the Katrina response was until they wanted to use it for comparison. Heck of a job.

OH, really, so Sean and Perry are trying to make it appear that they are the voices of reason. Seriously, such a change in tone Perry talks about humanitarian measures, HE has NO room to talk. Considering how he has treated the children in need in Texas. Obama has asked for more money from Congress to help TX with the overflow of young children across the border and what are members in Congress claiming? That this is another poly of Obama’s just to get more money, REALLY? I would suggest that Perry take it up with HIS OWN TEAM in Congress. Or there’s that other Republican CRAZIES claiming that Obama has somehow planned the overflow at Texas’ border.

The good news about Hannity’s interview is that Sean is planning to move there, he wants to become a citizen of the Republic of TX…GOOD NEWS.

Listen up, Captain Fuckstick. The issue was never Bush not physically going to New Orleans. The issue was Bush apparently not giving a shit for three days while American citizens were fighting for their lives and having to piss in the Superdome concourse.

President Obama, on the other hand, was a couple of years ahead on this immigration issue, the proof being the immigration bill that’s been sitting on John Boehner’s desk all this time – one that’s passed the Senate, would be signed by the President, and would probably even pass the House if our current Speaker had the balls to actually put it on the floor so our elected Representatives could vote on it.

The Katrina comparison is created by the media, and repeated by every congressperson, D or R, that wants some TV time. And, it is foolish — no wonder Perry jumped on the bandwagon last night. The border problem in Texas is not a natural disaster, the individuals being displaced are not American citizens, and the President is not turning his back on the children flowing into the United States. Yet, the media keeps playing to this absurd comparison.

What message would a Presidential visit send to the people of Central America? Send more kids, maybe the President will come and meet with them too! Obama is right ---- solutions must be put in place, pictures can wait.

I can REALLY understand why “they” say that Bush was and is the “smart” one.

A$$holes, still trying to find some mud that’ll stick on POTUS. This will fail like all the prior attempts.
