Rick Perry: A Farce
Much better and more accurate headline. Although, hardly news.
“This farce of a prosecution will be revealed for what it is,” the governor said, “and those responsible will be held accountable.”
Temper, temper, Ricky. Threatening retribution is what got you in trouble in the first place.
Buh-bye. Stick-a-fork-in-him time.
“alleged that the governor broke the law by vetoing the $7.5 million budget of the state’s public integrity unit”
Actually, that is dead wrong. Nobody is alleging or filing charges for Perry exercising the veto.
He is being charged for THREATENING intimidating and oppressing public servants under a very specific statute of Texas law.
Rick Perry just spent an extended press conference lying about the charges in an attempt to shift the goal posts. And you fell for it.
EDIT: apparently I am no longer allowed to edit a post to fix a typo … I must radically alter the content for the edit to be accepted. OKay, here’s some added content: Fuck this God damned commenting system.
E^2: some extra credit reading material, links provided in comments from another TPM article:
Texas Gov. Rick Perry ® reacted with anger and defiance on Saturday
If he were innocent he’d blow it off and laugh. He’s afraid.
His actual statement: "This is an abuse of… ?? The third word thing. What was it?
The reason he’s afraid? The trial must be held in Travis County (Austin). Part of the state constitution. Travis County gave President Obama 64% of the vote in 2008 and 62% of the vote in 2012.
Yup. He’s shitting bricks right now.
I’m really pissed. Why couldn’t the Special Prosecutor wait 10 days to unseal the indictment. I’ll be in Austin then. By releasing the indictment yesterday, I miss the party.
““This indictment amounts to nothing more than abuse of power. And I cannot and I will not allow that to happen,” Perry said.”
Exactly and that is the charge,Correct ?
I also understand that one of these two “FELONIES” carry a 99 year
prison sentence. OUCH!! Don’t drop the soap .
If the rumors from New Orleans are true, Rick will throw the soap on the floor, over and over.
The thought of Death Penalty Ricky spending time in a Texas prison makes me smile.
OOPS!
Perry’s impotent bluster is very telling.
To call the indictment “abuse of power” is a transparent—and terminally weak—attempt to devalue the charges against him.
It’s not the veto that is at issue.
Perry threatened and attempted to intimidate an elected official to force her out of office while simultaneously crippling the office that investigates ethical wrongdoing by Texas officials.
That is two felonies wrapped in tissue with a big pink bow on top and sent to the special prosecutor with a note that says “I dare you!”
The special prosecutor—a former federal prosecutor----is not from Travis County and is doing his job with the grand jury in a manner guaranteed to make Gov. Goodhair as nervous as a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs.
This is going to be fun to watch—glad I bought those popcorn futures in the Spring.
Now the conservative Fort Worth Star-Telegram has chimed in…
“…This indictment could be to the Perry presidential campaign what a sewer leak is to the opening of a new restaurant: The food might not be the diners’ strongest memory of the meal.”
Edit: The Star-Telegram linked to the TexasTribune
“I exercised this authority to veto funding for an office whose leadership had lost the public’s confidence by acting inappropriately and unethically,” Perry said on Saturday."
I would counter the grand jury exercised its authority to indict based upon the evidence presented by the DA for inappropriate and unethical behavior. Perhaps you forget the exact same case in the early 1900s of a foolish governor in Texas. Texas state government is full of criminals and clowns these days.
His governorship has been a farce and an outrage for average Texans.
"If Obama wasn’t a Muslim Marxist Nazi who done tried to give us health care, I wouldn’t have had to abuse my power! Thanks Libruls! "
