Remarkably the alleged false statement was made by Gates to the Special Counsel’s Office and the FBI on Feb. 1, months after the original indictment was issued, according to the information. That suggests Gates lied in the course of plea negotiations. His lawyers moved to withdraw from the case the same day.

I look forward to the book and I hope Mueller goes the Bugliosi route and writes one himself. I was riveted by Helter Skelter when I read it many years ago.

The tough part will be finding the narrative thread that leads you through it. It really is a vast conspiracy with a lot of moving parts. Casting will be tough too. Hard to think of many people who’ve had acting careers who look like Mitch McConnell.

Is Mueller able to promise that someone won’t get extradited to somewhere else for related crimes? (Aside from keeping him in a US prison)

Fascinating bit in the last line of the information filed by Mueller (basically the charging doc for the guilty plea: It shows Manafort lying to the lawyer he hired for Foreign Agent Reporting Act issues about whether Ukraine was discussed at a meeting with a member of Congress. It’s never a good idea to lie to your own lawyer, something I imagine Trump has done on a near constant basis.
