Discussion: Republicans React To Donald Trump's Policy To Keep Muslims Out Of The Country

This is just more of the outrageous divisiveness that characterizes my every breath and another reason why I am entirely unsuited to lead the United States.

On the other hand, I think Kaisch was being incredibly introspective.

I seriously don’t think Trump has speech writers. Every ā€œspeechā€ I hear appears to be totally running of the mouth and off the cuff. Perhaps there are staffers who provide him with with suggested notes. But I think the things he says are pure, unadulterated, diabolical rantings from a narcissistic, egocentric, out-of-control being.

You have to wonder what kind of person this Corey Lewandowski is, to be Trump’s spokesperson and share all this dangerous crap with the world. (I just read his Wikipage and apparently, he is quite at home with Trump.)

The most dangerous thing about Trump is that he will make Cruz, Rubio and other rightwing fanatics look relatively moderate. This is not good.

Please pardon me if I don’t take Lindsey THEY’RE COMING HERE TO KILL US!! Graham’s rebuke of absurd comments and downright dangerous[…]bombastic rhetoric as anything but self-serving hypocritical posturing.

I don’t think it’ll greatly INCREASE his polling numbers, but it sure ain’t gonna hurt them and LIKELY will ā€˜solidify’ his support.

Look at who’s attacking Trump: the establishment minnows. Jeb’s dead, Fiorina was always a stunt specialist, and Graham is pontificating from a permanent high chair at the kiddies’ table, so ALL their joining in on this response does is water down Kasich’s effort to be seen as the adult on the big stage.

The BIG takeaway: crickets from Cruz & Rubio (and, FWIW, Carson): that’s at least 4 out of every 5 self-identified GOPer supporters accounted for, NONE of whom are going to disagree with what Trump said.

Donald Trump is to the Republican Party what Eustace is to Talking Points Memo.

GoP, you NEED TO BAN TRUMP from representing your political party or what’s left of it!

Everyone has their own tipping point on ā€˜what Trump said’ –
that will finally disqualify him as a serious candidate.
But for as long as he keeps the clickthroughs-a-coming–
it won’t abate-- and the MSM is loving the $$.

He’s already spewed so much that is extra-constitutional–
that I could never again be surprised/floored/shocked (or experience any other term-of-alarm).

If this was a drinking game?
We’d all be honorary Russians.

So do we make Muslims wear a star and crescent on their clothes? Do we demand they live in closed communities. Do we issue identity papers to everyone in the country so we can then tell who is Christian (approved), Jewish (OK but questionable), or Muslim (definitely not OK). Will our passports indicate our religion?
What’s to prevent someone lying about their faith when they enter the country? What does a Muslim look like?
…
The foregoing are just musings. The last thing I want is to discriminate against any faith, race, or sexual orientation. I had thought we’d dealt with all that in this ā€œpost-racialā€ era. I grew up in a very racist rural Ohio village of 400 souls. A nearby university town was the site for non-violence training for the people who intended to go to the south and desegregate the buses in Mississippi and Alabama so I witnessed first hand both sides of the desegregation movement. Now we have Trump raising the specter of fascism, racism, and hatred and becoming the leading candidate of the republicans for President. I cannot think of a worse thing for our country. This is something I must fight even tho I’m now a retired old fart.

How about some of his supporters gets some Super Special uniforms and start travelling around the US, tagging the houses of suspected terrorists with a special symbol…

Europeans will choose to follow Putin over President Trump any day of the week.

Oh, yes. I just wrote basically the same thing on the earlier thread about Trump’s ā€œproposal.ā€ Apparently everyone’s already forgotten other candidates’ nutty, stupid, destructive utterances, like Bush’s nearly-identical post-Paris assertion that we should only let Christians into the country (there’s video); but of course he’s a genteel ā€œestablishmentā€ Republican who doesn’t bellow and strut like Mussolini. I really do worry that anyone but Trump who gets the GOP nomination will get even more obsequious coverage than they might have just because reporters will see them as ā€œmoderateā€ in comparison.

That’s an interesting question - money always talks the loudest and businesses generally prefer not to alienate customers.

And now they can make themselves look ā€œmoderateā€ by allowing some Muslims in the country.
