Discussion: Republican Candidates Criticize Former President Jimmy Carter

I should’ve added the edit that occurs right now.
“Pond scum…it’s what’s for dinner!!”

When Jimmy Carter is laid to rest it will be with considerable respect and honor whcih is richly deserved in my opinion. The same very likely will not be afforded to Cruz or any other repub candidate who disparages Mr Carter.
Karma can be a real testy bitch.

Christie and Cruz are not worthy of being a dirt of this man’s fingernails.

If there is one thing uniting the Republican primary candidates it is an absolute and total lack of class and compassion. Steely-eyed sociopaths, each and every one, with most of them trying to make themselves heard of the din of the crudest and loudest of their number.

“Cut and Run” I believe is the phrase you are looking for…

But he made up for it by invading Grenada. An island country of 100,000 people.

At the time the U.S. was 2,500 times larger than Grenada. Reagan made sure he picked a fight that he knew wouldn’t have the same kind of trouble as Beirut.

having been through that, if someone pays attention to the signs, it is very noticeable early on.

According to Molly Ivans, Reagan needed cue cards in his cabinet meetings in order to tell who was who, and that was like two years into his Presidency. He really should not have been President at that point.

He also wanted to prove he had larger balls than Thatcher…

And, because most of them are not idiots about politics (Carson and Jindal are among the clear exceptions), we can be certain that what they are serving is what a majority of GOP primary voters want.

We can fault each of the individual candidates for what they say and how they say it, but we can’t expect future candidates to be any different unless the demands of GOP voters change. Right now, it isn’t clear if there is any factor other than attrition that might move the party away from the current alloy of Koch-funded libertarian jihad and Tea Party orgy of hatred and ignorance.

An actual phrase used by the US very shortly (a few days at most) after the bombing was “strategic redeployment offshore.”

That has stuck in my head ever since. Using such a clinical military phrase as an explanation to the US public was an obvious indicator that the administration had screwed up so badly that they felt the need to cower behind the military and exploit public sympathy for our service members.

Only a bully kicks a man when he’s down. And Republicans are nothing but bullies in suits and ties.

Thanks for reminding us of those facts. Still amazes me that Reagan personally not only got away with all that immoral, illegal crap, but is held in high regard to this day by much of the country. The S & L crisis was an ugly result of the crappy policies he pursued as well.

Hope the historians judge his legacy more objectively and he winds up where he belongs - listed as one of the worst presidents ever.

The old fart doesn’t really belong on any list with President Carter, the most honorable and decent public servant I’ve witnessed in my lifetime.

This tells you a lot about the GOP. If I had been 10 days younger, Carter would have been the 1st president I was old enough to vote for, and I’m 60. Carter means nothing to people younger than me. But then, there are few younger than me who are in the GOP base.

Yup. Exactly.

<3 Banksy.

Even if such statements from two vile & loathsome men were somehow NOT considered despicable, what does Jimmy Carter have to do with the vision & ideas for the future offered by these office-seeking men? Oh, that’s right; they have NO vision or ideas for the future. Silly me, I keep forgetting that the main plank of the Republican Party’s platform these days IS hatred.

As usual, the only measure of a man in Rep land is how big of a dick he is. These are manly men.

Go back in time 40 years ago, but not 30. Ronald Reagan is above reproach and all of the harm he did is simply an imagined left wing fantasy.

And let’s not forget 4 Navy Seals died in Grenada fiasco, same number as BENGHAZI, but did anyone carry on for years over them, in a word no, it was just buried like everything else that St. “mistakes were made” Ronnie screwed up.

Republicans just can’t seem to get past Carter v. Ronald Reagan.
Given the GOP Presidents who followed The Gipper, I can’t blame them.

Cruz and Christie are scumbags, not fit to carry Jimmy Carter’s coat. Neither one will be President either. Neither one has any humanity or decency.
