Discussion: Republican Candidates Criticize Former President Jimmy Carter

Here’s the truth. Jimmy Carter did more good work in 60 seconds than RAFAEL Cruz and KKKris KKKristie will do in their whole lives!

And let us not forget he used the funds derived from those illegal arms sales to conduct an illegal, covert war against a duly elected democratic government.

I think that this is a bit overwrought.

Given his performance in the current Republican primary, I have frequently made the comment, “Hoocoodanode that Jeb was the stupid Bush.”

I would make that comment if he had cancer, I would make that comment if George W. had cancer, I would make it if George HW had cancer, or any of their respective spouses did.

There is nothing wrong with criticizing people with cancer. If someone has cancer, you should treat them the same way you would anyway.

I will note that there is a difference between criticizing someone who has cancer, and criticizing someone for HAVING cancer, and the latter is reprehensible, but you should treat people with cancer as people.

Nope. It’s my fault. I was naive enough to think those two douche bags couldn’t get any douchier. My bad.

Cancer is not the issue. Everyone dies of something. President Carter will die rich in the true wealth of contentment. Good luck with that C&C.

Better watch it, Cruz and Christie…

Carter’s gonna have a private conversation with your ‘creator’…

Let the boots quaking begin…

Don’t forget no one was running around shouting Beruit and there was just one bipartisan congressional hearing. I remember thinking at the time the American people had little patience for the Iranian hostage crisis yet they gave Ronnie a pass for 241 dead marines.

WITH A CAPITAL “A” - & UP YOURS, TPM, for telling me that my post isn’t descriptive?

He is a true Christian. Unfortunately he was also a very poor President. Bring his name up, and his record of leading America comes with it. Carter’s record is fair game always.

Cruz and Christie are contemptible excuses for humanity. But, you knew that.

Classy! Emphasis on the Assy.

Look at it this way, these are two definite losers that we don’t have to worry about.
Real candidates wouldn’t ever allow themselves to be this classless and clueless.

Sheer desperation makes men that otherwise know better result to something this low, and yes this is as low as it gets, the pits. What makes a dreg a dreg is sinking to the bottom and always finding ways to be worse

Cruz is Trump minus the class and Christie is a fat bastard headed for jail. And these are their good points. May they both fester in their own grotesque selves.

Jimmy Carter is the truth, the hope and the vision of new hope. Jimmy Carter makes small changes that only time can tell and time is talking now. May he rest in peace because he deserves it.

Carter was, alas, one of the more ineffective Presidents in our History. Some of that was out of his control such as the Iran Hostage Crisis and US Energy Crisis were things he had little control over; however, he never dealt with them especially effectively.

I’m not sure if you’re old enough to remember, but he was the first victim of the emerging neocon smear machine, which climaxed with Clinton (no pun intended). He wasn’t as bad as popular wisdom suggests. His only real failing was his integration of religion into his work.

This seventeen passenger GOP clown car has certainly revealed the true vile nature of the people they purport to represent. GOP=VILE.

Actually, Reagan did do something about the Marine barracks bombing. He had giant Jersey barriers erected around the White House so that no one could bomb his dwelling.

Dogs resent that.

I could phrase that differently, but yes, he did some things which improved safety. Of course, it wouldn’t be until the bombing of the Murrah Building during the Clinton Administration that we took the security of federal buildings seriously.

The “Reagan Representatives” were G.H.W. Bush’s friends at the CIA where he was the CIA Director under President Ford, a gift/payoff to him for running Nixon’s “Committee to Re-Elect the President” in the 1972 campaign. He only escaped prosecution due to his contacts in the Congress and CIA (via his Father, Sen. Prescott Bush’s influence.)
He never forgave Carter for replacing him at the CIA and he and his contacts there did everything they could to destroy Carter’s Presidency. Most of it was run out of the CIA’s “PsyOps” group. That is one responsible for “destabilizing enemy governments, economies, and culture” and fomenting and supporting “counter-revolutions” in communist/unfriendly countries.
They were MORE than happy to help the Republicans “take back” the Presidency as many of them were appointed during the Nixon/Ford administrations and they HATED Carter (and all Democrats) for “making” Nixon resign and defeating Ford in 1976.

This is the party which managed (in 1980) to paint Reagan as the religious candidate, which managed (in 2002) to suggest that Max Cleland lacked patriotism, which managed (in 2004) to make Bush the war hero over Kerry.

These people have no decency whatsoever. No class, no civility, no manners, no humanity. Just burning ambition, a super-inflated ego, and in most cases tons of money. I HATE this attitude. If I could, I would turn loose all the hounds of hell on everyone who has the Olympic gall to go after Carter (or Cleland, or Kerry, or XYZ) in this particular fashion.
