But headlines can mislead. The main terrorist threat in the United States is not from violent Muslim extremists, but from right-wing extremists. Just ask the police.

And you obviously didn’t read the rest of the NY Times article. The body count is almost 5-to-1. RWNJ’s are much more dangerous than jihadist wannabes.

Exactly, apologists for both Muslim nut jobs and Alex Jones followers are morons. They are indeed BOTH a threat. FBI Director Comey has been very clear on that, but far lefties and almost all righties seem to think that one or the other are being singled out. Not true, both are being very carefully watched, as they should be.

On a more serious note, the NYT article clearly attempts to minimize Islamic terrorism here at home, which is obviously occurring at an alarming pace, while at the same time pointing the finger at a group of people that have not caused too much trouble in the past decade at least.
According to news reports, the shooter was born in Kuwait, in 1990.
Guess this is the thanks we get for bailing them out when Saddam invaded them.
It’s always lose-lose when we enter the Middle East. Will we ever figure that out and just start minding our own GD business?

Since 9/11, an average of nine American Muslims per year have been involved in an average of six terrorism-related plots against targets in the United States. Most were disrupted, but the 20 plots that were carried out accounted for 50 fatalities over the past 13 and a half years.
In contrast, right-wing extremists averaged 337 attacks per year in the decade after 9/11, causing a total of 254 fatalities, according to a study by Arie Perliger, a professor at the United States Military Academy’s Combating Terrorism Center. The toll has increased since the study was released in 2012.
I know it is really challenging math, but an average of 6 per year is truly less than an average of 337 per year (by a lot) and 50 fatalities over 13 years is less than 254 fatalities in 10 years (by a lot). It’s true and it’s okay to accept it. Did that clear it up for you?
