Discussion: Reports: GOP Advisers Warning Trump That Party Faces Tough 2018 Midterms

Politico needs to stop printing blatant absurdities sourced on background. The whole world knows that Trump* isn’t “aware of” the first thing about the party’s political situation, and doesn’t care to find out. Let Politico tell “those close to Trump” to either go on the record or don’t expect their fantasies to find their way into the zeitgeist.

Problem: Trump is dragging the party down**, and we’re about to get wiped out.
Solution: The RNC needs to defend Trump more and put more Trumpies in charge.
Conclusion: Kelly and Conway and Lewandowski and the rest of that gang are going to greatly assist Dem gains.

*Don’t get me started on Obama in 2009/10. He was another one with his head up his ass in regards to shoring up the party leadership and political ramparts for midterm elections – in that case, the most catastrophic midterm election in US history. Just goes to show you that it’s not just lack of intelligence that leads to these scenarios, but also hubris.

**To be fair, Trump isn’t the only problem. The Republican agenda that has at last been enacted, with a Republican – any Republican – in the WH, is also killing them.

My own thought is that people who see it as likely because of the distraction it affords are discounting what a coward he is. He only fired Comey because Jared stupidly recommended it; it’s obviously now even to him one of his biggest mistakes. So I think he’s warier now of big risky diversionary stunts. At least Jesus Christ I hope so. I’m damned nervous about the military stuff Putin’s doing on his western borders. Really scary. There’s enough risk there, given the situation, without the pot getting stirred in other places.

As we speak Darrell Issa, R-San Diego, is reading the suicide note he’s written to make sure it’s perfect before he jumps.

Those responses to his tweet… they burn - third degree type burns.

:joy: I love it that Issa knows. He really knows what’s coming and has known it since last year.

A large enough wave might wash out some of the detritus from here in NC. Mark Walker, the head of the Republican Study Committee, is a particularly vulgar, sexist asshole. I’ve faith one or more of his affairs will be exposed before the midterms.

@littlegirlblue Figuring out which of his colleagues’ cars he’s going to hotwire, is more like it.

…a late afternoon meeting quickly turned into an airing of grievances

Maybe we will have a Festivus miracle and all of the naughty children will get indictments in their stockings.

Yes, that’s right. Let Trump grope you all over, RNC. And cuddle up close now … it’s gonna be a long, long year.

Poor dears. The Republicans still don’t get it.

Didn’t the primaries tell you? Didn’t the collusion offer a hint? The alt-right french kiss in Virginia? Bannon?

Chaos is the point.

More Trump loyalists at the RNC.

Sure. THAT will fix the problem…

You really should’ve seen the video from the event. There were maybe 15 people there.

GOP donors don’t set foot in anything beneath a Ritz-Carlton–affluenza is aggravated by the breath of poors.

Looking at the political team named in this article it is fair to say the Democratic win should be crushing.

This President should be doing as much as he can to help the RNC protect congressional republicans. It sounds like he wants the RNC to do more to protect him. Totally wrong headed. There is little doubt that Trump will do all he can to completely nationalize the election. That plays right into the Democrats hands.

Yep, that and how many winnable races does he destroy for Republicans by getting nutjobs nominated?

A major Democratic theme next year should be candidate competence. Let’s send a team to Washington who can actually do stuff.

A lot of rural California is pretty solidly Trump country, so don’t count those congressional seats before they flip. They are complicated on the weed thing, however, so who knows? I think the suburban districts are solidly in play. (e.g., Issa)
