I didn’t even know Grassley was up for re-election. I assume that’s because his was considered a ā€˜safe’ seat.

And, for what it’s worth, me thinks Obama’s political team’s fingerprints are all over this one!

This is great news; though it will still be a tough race to win. She gets a big boost if Obama actually nominates Jane Kelly to the Court, which I hope he does.

Interesting that this comes out the same day that TPM reports that Obama is vetting Judge Jane Kelly, an Iowan and someone Grassley has strongly supported in the past, for Scalia’s vacancy. So Obama may nominate a Judge who will put Grassley in a difficult situation, at the same time that a Judge is running for Grassley’s Senate seat. Nice parallelism!

Trump: I encourage her to run. We need to beat the establishment Republicans. They are after us.
FOX: This is working out well for Trump and Democrats.

When almost 70% of the country thinks your stance on the courts is batshit crazy, the chairman-
supposedly in a safe seat- gets challenged. If McConnell rides this horse, we could be looking at 52-54 seats if Trump’s at the top of the ticket. I think it could get that bad.

Good point…I’m sure GOTP operatives wear gloves when they’re manipulating outcomes.

ā€œHe’s been with us a long time. Maybe he’s been with us too long.ā€

Maybe?

She doesn’t seem convinced. I hope she is better than that in debates and in her conviction.

This is Iowa, not Queens.

I feel I’m seeing a pin unfolding on the chess board.

She is a serious candidate. I suspect she thinks she has a real shot. If Trump is the Republican presidential nominee she probably does.

Plus side (just off of Wikipedia): She’s won three statewide races and has been on a statewide ballot three times.

Downside: She’s 72 and has been out of office since she lost her re-election campaign in 2010

Curious from our Iowa fiends to learn more about her. Is she a significant step above the local politicians who already were in the Democratic race?

If this woman is not a DINO turncoat in waiting, I am ready to donate to her campaign.

Really, there are levels of conservative democrats. Most are better than Grassley or what he has become now. Although most of the time, like with the Blue Dogs, it usually does not pan out to be one. Even if you are conservative on something like gun issues than the NRA is still going to go to the republican.

It really could be a nightmare where GOP heads are falling in states where we shouldn’t even be competitive. That actually already happened in '08 and '12. And in '12, Obama was running against the living embodiment of Generic Republican.

just what I was thinking! Headline: Judge asks Grassley on Judge issue."

Yes, I’d love to hear from some of our Iowans who know a little bit about her. I’m also hoping we’re about to see a trend where strong Democratic candidates start jumping in the race and strong Republicans either retire or take a pass. That’s the cue that they know it’s over.

Ten years younger than Grassley. Two terms seems plausible.

Think the field will clear for her. People know her name much better than other candidates out there. When she was Lt Gov (or was it Ag secretary?) for the state her name was at all the gas stations, ā€œThis gas product or whatever approved byā€¦ā€ . Can’t buy that kind of advertising! So the name’s out there. Though historically, very few women have been elected to national office by Iowans…only one I believe. And she’s no prize hog-snipper.
