Why would Republicans be upset about the shooting of Republican Reps. today in D.C.?
This is just the bullet box and 2nd Amendment solution Trump and the GOP suggested.
It has been reported that the guy is wildly anti-Trump and anti-Hilary - but very pro-Sanders - and you can count on certain politicians pandering to extremist in their base by making statements that essentially will blame Sanders for this.
So, given the situation, a man with obvious mental health issues owning an assault rifle, goes into 2nd Amendment remedy mode.

In 1984 I was living in what is now Steve Scalise’s district. Every White person to a person including women all correctly thought that Ronald Reagan was shafting them but they loved Reagan because in their view he “is shafting Black people worse”. Actually, that is not a direct quote because they never used the words “Black people”.
Steve Scalise ran for congress claiming to be “David Dukes without the baggage.” David Dukes without the baggage is by definition a Ku Klux Klansman yet to reveal himself/with the hood still on. Now I regret seeing anyone shot and hope Scalise recovers. But his being shot does not change the fact that Scalise is who he claims he is, a classic race baiter who like many Republicans manipulate fear and hate to take from their supporters for political and personal financial gain.
I am sure that some on this board are relieved that he is a Bernie supporter and not a Hillary fan. 
Seriously he seems to be a pretty typical 66 year old white man except most, right or left, don’t resort to violence.

Well no, it is violence against everything. Everyone is frustrated and some just can’t contain themselves. Much the same way Trump can’t contain his bad behavior.
