I have a question about the $750-775 figure that has beef floated. Today on NPR they were talking to a former Obama appointee that explained that the $750-775 figure was for when private companies are contracted with to provide ‘shelters’ for the minors crossing the border. He explained the high cost because space needs to be rented quickly, staff hired quickly, and most of the time these ‘shelters’ are located in rural areas which means they can’t pull enough staff from the local area, so hotel rooms are also needed.
This figure doesn’t jive if this Clint facility is already gov’t owned and operated. As I posted previously when word first got out about conditions in Clint locals came to donate diapers, toothpaste and brushes, and other items. They were turned away with the explanation that CBP already had enough on hand. There was some reporting that the facility in Clint was originally not used for minors but for adults, and they called them ‘iceboxes’ back then.
So now Congress, reporters, immigrant’s lawyers, or child advocate lawyers need to get in there and find out who is ordering this treatment. And Judge Dolly Gee needs to get involved since this goes against the Flores Settlement conditions.
Naw, that’s precisely when you have leverage. It’s a must-pass bit, because they’re about to run out of money and the situation with the kids will get even worse, therefore you can twist arms a bit, because they’re not going to take back their support over esoteric things that most of the public doesn’t understand.
Nope McConnell would not have brought them back for a vote and Pelosi would’ve been blamed. That is how cynical I am. Everyone went home. This vote should’ve happened weeks ago not the day before the summer recess.
I find images of Jews most of whom were murdered after this pictures were taken very offensive. They suffered horribly, they were put to death horribly, have some respect instead of looking very an easy bunch of “likes”
So you snap it back on them by having them do a unanimous consent on it, and when one Republican holds it up, it’s back in their ballcourt.
We have to play this game harder than they do, being the good humanitarian here just costs us political capital and has McTurtle laughing all the way to the bank.
I believe Rep. Veronica Escobar-TX reported on the conditions she found when she visited. She mentioned in an interview with Rachel Maddow that she was appalled, and they knew for two weeks she was coming.
Personally, I found the image of the immigrant father and daughter who drowned offensive.
I don’t think it should have been posted so many times in the threads.
Wow…that was quick. You earned the title ‘Russian bot’ from a rare poster with only a couple of replies.
Of course not, why they would learn the beds, blankets, shampoo, soap, etc showed up about 5 minutes before they did. They would also learn the kids were told not to open any of the packages or to even sit on the beds. Then 5 minutes after the “journalists” leave everything will be collected and shipped off to the next stop on the tour. Show but no tell.
Very annoyed that:
-
The TPM badges have stopped working.
-
They don’t have a russkie troll veteran combat badge.
It was very important to see it. It was extremely offensive to make a meme.
My initial reaction was “are you fucking kidding me”. But then, no, of course they would.
Hey Pelosi, they’re called concentration camps! AOC is right and you are a useless shit clogging up the toilet that is Congress. Fucking retire already! You allowed a bill to come up to a vote and pass to fund concentration camps! Fuck you!
Edit: actually she should’ve clogged the toilet in this case. Instead she served as the Santorum to lube this bill down the toilet and into the sewer that this country is becoming.
Miller wasn’t elected President. Trump is where the buck stops. The GOP controls the Senate. So if nothing is to be done to provide $$ to the border, then the mess will continue. That’s the game that Trump and the GOP are playing–and they are winning because they have the numbers and because there are enough House Democrats who believe voting against money for these kids will hurt them next year. It’s understandable and calling Dems who are not overwhelmingly in charge due to the 2016 election the failure is not serving this country or your cause.
Seriously…you wrote that…“the situation with the kids will get even worse…” That’s about as heartless as it gets.
How 'bout if a couple hundred thousand of us march, with cameras, on the compounds where these children are being terribly mistreated - In Our Name As Americans -
this must stop NOW !!!
You misread it, the leverage is because the situation is about to get worse, therefore you can twist arms now to prevent that happening.
If everyone wants to play the blame anyone but Trump game and that’s directed to the “it’s Stephen Miller’s fault” like anyone is going to care about what that guy advocates…if any of you want to get down in the muck with Trump and play heartless football with kids as the football…if you want to address Speaker Pelosi in vulgar terms when the fault lies completely with Trump…then I will say you are not being effective standard bearers for a liberal or progressive position.
If I can substitute names in your comments and it sounds exactly like a Republican said it…then you are not on the Democratic team and you are doing damage for an unknown reason.
It is important to keep in mind as all the horse-hockey excuses for not holding Pelosi responsible for this bill is that she is protecting ALL those blue dogs from primary challengers.
She can’t even stand up for suffering and dying children.
Pelosi is the Marie-Antoinette of the House.
