Discussion: Report: Utah Senator Orrin Hatch Plans To Retire, Clearing Path For Mitt Romney

I can see it now, Mittens campaigning across Utah with his dog strapped to the roof of the car, ignoring 47% of the population…

This Mitt Romney? The one Trump screwed over and humiliated when dangling Secretary of State in front of him?

Oooh, this should be good, that is if the U.S. hasn’t been immolated in nuclear fire first.

So the office pushes back - nothing has changed (suggestion - no decision made).

So in this era of GOP intrigue and back stabbing - who planted the story - and why? Mitts folks (nudge Hatch), Bannon’s folks (embarrass/harass hatch) - or other motivation?

Good riddance.

> That would be a sea change in Utah politics as well as in the Senate, where Hatch has served since the 1980s.”

Correction: Orrin Hatch has been serving since January 3rd, 1977

Mitt Romney on Donald Trump in March 2016 (worth watching again if you’ve already seen it):

I didn’t know these guys could just ‘will’ their seats! This IS ‘taking America back’ to…the 1800’s.

And he’ll lose to Matheson. “Matheson traveled to Washington…where he met with former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon and Citizens United President David Bossie.” Flying monkey brigade will be going all out in 2018. Like the Tea Party except worse. Good times.

Mitt Romney should stay home and STFU! This whole “clearing the path” for a planned successor is bull shit.

Great, we lose Hatch’s sniveling condescension to be replaced by the Pandering Fool Romney, and his horrible family. Can’t wait for a picture of the Romney and Trump families together skiing Aspen. Does anyone here have Mueller’s private line?

OT, but boy are they fucking scared…

WORTH NOTING: The WSJ editorial board, apparently with noted anti-Obama conservative harridan, Strassel, leading the way, is now fully committed to helping sell this Uranium One and Fusion GPS misdirection/disinformation as a means of taking down Mueller’s investigation and returning the narrative to attacks on Clinton and Obama, where they apparently believe all discussion still belongs.

IF Mitt runs, wondering what party he’ll run under. There will be 3 choices for Chaffetz’ seat, including Jim Bennett, from the United Utah Party, which I believe will look a lot like “traditional” republicans (ie, good, decent, far right-wingers).

Or it’s true but Hatch is delaying the announcement for strategic reasons.

This would totally ruin my “Kind Hearts and Coronets” scenario, wherein President Hatch surpasses(undercuts?) President Harrison as the shortest serving president when he dies of shock after Trump, Pence and Ryan are all indicted due to their collusion in various and sundry scandals. (Not that I would expressly desire Senator Hatch’s demise, but the situation just reminds me of the story, and his age along with his place in the line of succession just fits.)

Romney is a Bain in the ass.

Looks like they wanna get out before the heart attacks, anxiety and killer blood pressure set in. Good.

If Mittens chooses to run I’m sure he’ll win but I’m also sure he’ll be about as effective a Senator as a Susan Collins. Always “concerned” or “troubled” about something but in the end he’ll bend to the will of his Dear Leader. As the great Sarah Huckabee Sanders would say, Senator Romney is all hat and no cattle (or is it all cattle and no hat? not sure how that thing goes)

Good.
If Jon Huntsman ran against Mitt Romney in Utah, it would doubtful Mitt Romney would win. Mitt Romney is not guaranteed a win. Utah Mormons are pretty fickle bunch. For instance the Mayor of S.LC. is a gay woman, who is a Democrat.

I would agree this is most likely true, but the speculations can be so amusing.
