I agree. He might stand behind goons or send in Flying Monkeys …but I don’t even think he would expose himself that much. I bet that if he shows, he won’t get out of his car unless the coast is clear.

Whatever forces him to open govt soonest. The FBI and SCO and lots of things we need are being starved to death. I think he operates better during the shutdown than Nancy does, because he can declare things by fiat and she is left holding a dead govt. Makes it easier for him to pull some permanent crisis with the govt. laying there lifeless. If there is one thing I give Chump credit for is smelling weakness. Not so much that he is strong and others are weak…he senses cracks and dead-spots and weasel-ways and has made a living off getting away with crime in broad daylight. He is in his milieu.

Pelosi asked trump to consider postponing the SOTU because of the shutdown- she didn’t withdraw the invitation.
I think the whole “meany Pelosi banned trump” meme was started by the GOP to give trump a fake win by letting trump come to the Capitol “in defiance” of Nancy Pelosi.
Of course, even trump realizes Congress won’t be wearing MAGA hats and cheering the whole time, so trump will also hold another campaign/ego massaging event. And he’ll probably sell hats, etc. at that event because grifters gotta grift…

An ‘uninvitation’ in so many words. Any dummy can read between the lines except the dummy in the White House, who can’t read, period. She says a SOTU has never been given during a shutdown. How do you read that?
She’s just trying to be diplomatic or polite…and of course it went right over his head until someone had to explain to him what she was saying. It took him a day to respond with his typical nastiness too. Then he grounded her as payback. He’s still smarting over this. Never lets go of a grudge, especially one towards a powerful woman who has the upper hand in this.

She still controls the date and the venue. She can simply say “We’re happy to set a date after the government is opened. However right now, my advisers and I have determined that we can’t provide the required level of security during a shutdown, for an event where both chambers of congress, the POTUS and VP are present in one room.” And the doors stay locked.
I am in favor of sending him a letter saying the rally is a good idea and should be scheduled.
It was an invitation because Speaker Pelosi knows the protocols involved in government and does what she can to abide by them. Like the tango, it must be done with two cooperative parties, but she’s not there to tutor him or rely on his understanding of the protocols.
I have to remind myself every day and I think we all should that DJT ran for the presidency never expecting to win it and saw it as a chance to make some money and enhance his brand and sell merch such as hats. He came into office, the most powerful position in the world, with no respect for it and he demonstrates it every day.

Just thought I’d offer a view of the accommodations trump can look forward to after he is out of office…
Kinda slim on the gaudy gold filigree trump is used to.
Ahh gaze into the crystal ball – 
Here’s my bet/prediction:
- Democratic bill is passed in Senate* Thursday 1/24 - sent to donald’s desk
- Gov’t is open “temporarily” while discussion of his wall funding goes on
- SOTU happens in House Chambers on 1/29
- Additional crisis-of-the-moment resolved. (sorta) for the moment
- The shut down isn’t working out for him, just like the trade war didn’t work out for him. This could be somewhat face-saving if he can say that he only opens g’vt because his other bill is going to the house. Somehow the unpaid federal workers need to be saved. Even the GOP must see this. It’s hitting the economy…did I hear GDP down 1/2 % per is it week of shut down. Shut down costs now will exceed his wall funding. It’s really a Dem win, and a win for Nancy, but the GOP will couch it as a win for donald, and their followers (except Coulter let’s say), will call it a big win for the noble donald who graciously broke the stalemate and reopened the g’vt. Everyone will be happy, and some time is bought.
Alternate plan B – he holds a big rally surrounded by MAGA-hats and everyone cheers.
That’s my bet.

Of course she’s being diplomatic and polite. That’s her job and her nature. But she did invite the dotard to give his asinine speech while simultaneously pointing out it has never been done during a government shutdown. Helles belles shutdowns didn’t used to even happen until what was it Ginritches time at the helm?
