Discussion for article #222026
I wonder what extortion/bribery Ridge was subjected to that made him step down.
I wonder what he thinks he’s running for.
Rarely has a man done so little with so high a profile. Remember he was the genius behind the Bush security color codes. He does just enough to stay in the game without ever accomplishing anything. He’s more benign than a lot of the Bushies, but he’s taking up space that could be used much more effectively.
Remember the plastic and duct tape?
I get such a kick out of the Republicans. Their newest way to not meet anything head on is "I think we need to have a conversation about _ _ _ _ _ _ _ . Fill in the blanks. How long do we have to talk about the insanity of guns and the lack of gun laws in this country? Talking has yet to save a single life.
Another GOP phony playing the rubes.
Mr Ridge is scared of the NRA and wayne la pepe…
“…I am uncomfortable with their expected electoral work…”
In other words, my affinity to my party trumps saving american lives. Typical Republican!
Interpret that as, Ridge not willing to fight other republicans over guns.
“Expected electoral work” indicates that Ridge would have had to face NRA propagandists and character assassins in future elections where Bloomberg’s group is going to back candidates who support sane gun laws. This is politics at its grittiest, and, I guess, Tom is not up to the task. HIs last election was about 16 years ago, and, since Homeland Security, he has led a pretty cushy life. As a Republican, the “electoral work” he would expect to face would be primarily against Republicans, and I guess he is not up to that task either. I give Bloomberg props for wanting to take his gun laws message to the streets where life is tough. Ridge apparently prefers the fresh coffee and expensive cigars of the corporate boardroom.
Exactly. What possible political future does this ossified neocon have?
“Therefore, we have decided that we will pursue this issue in our separate spheres.”
Bloomberg passing sensible legislation. Ridge and Republicans indifferent to electoral counts.
Believe that?
This is the guy who scared people out of their wits. I’ll never forget the guy who wrapped his house in masking tape.
I think Ridge caved o pressure from his Repug benefactors.
I, too, have never understood why this fellow has been able to sell himself as a bridge between thoughtful social policies and the republic party. Whenever it is time to really “lay the money down” this turkey has always, absolutely always, folded on the American people.
Sometimes I get the feeling Bloomberg doesn’t understand US politics at all.
“I thought we were just going to spout platitudes about gun safety, and pretend that we were doing something about it. I had no idea we would hold politicians accountable for making firearms as accessible as possible to criminals.”
“After consultation with Everytown, I have decided that I am uncomfortable with their expected electoral work… Therefore, we have decided that we will pursue this issue in our separate spheres.”
Translation: I was game as long as it made me look good, but once I found out you’re actually planning on doing something real to counteract the undue influence of the NRA in electoral politics, count me out.
Had I seen your post first I’d have jumped on instead of wasting space. Great minds think alike
And what times would those be?
