Discussion: Report: Page Bragged In 2013 Of Being 'Informal Advisor' To Kremlin Staff

The timing of this leak to Time is very interesting and encouraging. Someone gave Nunes, Ryan, Trump and the Republicans just enough rope to hang themselves.

This Page of history should, by all rights, be relegated to a footnote. But the utter incompetence of the Trump campaign and now Administration makes it impossible to ignore. Why is this doofus in the center of so much attention?

So much for the “great man theory of history”. How about the “very small, suck-up man of history”?

While I still don’t know the final, net effect of the memo fiasco, the R’s should ask themselves whether they really want to keep pulling these stunts because of the renewed scrutiny it will bring to the players involved. Carter Page? We had sort of forgotten about him (Not Mueller, but the general public) and now he’s front page news again.

When it comes to Russia, it’s better for the WH to have Page in the headlines than Trump.

The Trump campaign seems to have scrounged really hard to find such an assortment of incompetent dolts. Then again, given how many seemed to intersect with - or be interested in intersecting with Russia, perhaps the incompetent dolts were fed to the campaign by the Kremlin.

“Over the past half year,” Page wrote, “I have had the privilege to serve as an informal advisor to the staff of the Kremlin in preparation for their Presidency of the G-20 Summit next month, where energy issues will be a prominent point on the agenda.”

Now depending on what he actually did at the G-20, this development could be seen as an exaggeration and his sparse group of defenders could chalk up any involvement as him getting ‘rent money’. However, there’s likely a nastier Page bombshell on the horizon and seeing how he won’t shut up about being a martyr…

Page won’t shut up about his alleged brilliance.

Page said he had additional meetings, calling them “really plain-vanilla stuff” and adding: “Does that make me an evil villain, as some of your sources would like to have you think?”

Why of course it does Sparky. But evil in the same vein as Willie Coyote. Even your Rooskie contacts saw you to be inept.

No. “Informal Advisor” = informant = spy = traitor.

There, fixed. Page is just like Trump in this respect, constantly mouthing off about his alleged “smarts.”

It really is worse than Amateur Hour in this WH, more like The Gong Show. OK, I’ve dated myself twice in that sentence.

I found this a fascinating take on the bizarre Carter Page. Naveed Jamali, a former FBI operative and double agent and frequent MSNBC contributor, tweeted this:

He was warned by the FBI that he was possibly being recruited by the Russians in 2013
